THINGS EVERY JOB SEEKER SHOULD KNOW
Most of us if not all go to school very hopeful that things will work out. However, things turn out to be negative for most of us which leaves us devastated. A complete turnaround of events and reality dawns on you that you are taking longer than expected to secure a job. Looking for a job can be very draining and if you are not careful you can get lost into it.
What do you do in such a delicate phase of life? Here are some of the things to consider as you look for a job:
GRATITUDE
Be grateful that you had a chance to study and complete your program successfully. Some had started the program but never completed. Approaching the job seeking process with a heart full of gratitude will keep you hopeful for a better day.
NEVER ACT TOO DESPERATE
This is one of the biggest mistakes that graduates make. You badly need that job to meet those bills but that is not an excuse to act desperate. You still have your worth as a person. Stay firm and true to your principles.
BRACE YOURSELF
I would be an award-winning liar if I told you that it would be an easy one. You will drop your resume in countless offices without ever getting feedback. Many people will ask for your resume with a promise to help you but somehow it does not work. They might be trying their level best without success. You will attend countless costly interviews and just when you think it is done you wake up to regret emails. Be strong enough to take whatever comes with optimism.
KNOW WHO TO LISTEN TO
It is during this phase that you have many advisors than ever before. Your parents might feel that you took a wrong course, your friends who have secured jobs already have different opinions as well not forgetting you feel something different too. Everyone in your life will have diverse opinions on what you ought to have done or you should do to secure a job. Be careful and weigh every thought before consideration.
NETWORKING
Your chain of network should go beyond coffee sessions and movie watching. Friends really help in sharing opportunities that they come across. Get to know what your schoolmates are doing and if they can help. Do not be in your own island. A pat on the back will help too. It feels better to know that you are not alone in the struggle.
LIVE LIFE
A big mistake you would make is reducing your life to seeking a job only. There is more to life than looking for a job. Do not be carried away by the process and forget yourself. Attend events, spend time with friends and family and you will find it easier.
