University of Wisconsin-Madison Application Essay
My greatest inspiration to join the University of Wisconsin-Madison is through various stories I read about it through the online platform. The enthusiasm related to its performance and aid to students led to the development of interest to visit the university. Information regarding its environment was interesting. Born, raised, and studied in rural areas of Cheshire, CT led to the development of interest to study in UW. Through the trip to the University, I realized that it is located in town. I would love to enjoy this kind of urban life, at least for exposure purposes. Regardless of growing up in a rural area, I have always liked outdoor activities. Through the visitation to the university, I learned that the university surroundings provide a great opportunity for outdoor activities. I am fond of hiking, skiing, and engaging in water sport activities. As such, the location of the university next to Lake Mendota will be of great opportunity. In the high school level, I was among the best skiing students. Thus, learning that the university has an advanced outdoor club for skiing is amazing. I would love to progress my skiing hobby and make friends with whom we can create a challenge, just like how we used to do in high school.
Likewise, I am also interested in the university for their Exemplary Performance in the US and at the international array. Through Google services, I was able to learn that the university was ranked in positions 13th and 46 in the US and the world, respectively. As such, the information proves that the university offers a world-class education, which is a desire for every learner. Nonetheless, UW is known for its help in financing their students. Such also prompted my desire to join the university since, despite my desire to pursue my academic goals, my family may not be able to pay my full school fees. Through the existence of “US News 529 Finder” and “paying for college knowledge center” in the UW, I view that my education journey can be facilitated without straining my family financially. Essential student services such as medical insurance, student patrols, and safety and security services also prompted my desire to join UW. For instance, I desire to reside in school dormitories. Through the key security cards used to access the facilities, I feel that obtaining admission to UW will guarantee my safety.
Studying computer science in UW has been propelled by both personal and academic interests. Studying computer science for academic interests was driven by the good ranking of the university, especially in subspecialties such as artificial intelligence, systems, and programming language. Such has led to the respect of the university from other universities as well as the employers. I realized such through my neighbor, who is a chief executive officer in one of the companies in the region. He highlighted that most of the corporations prefer graduates in the computer science department from U-W due to their exemplary work. The department has renowned professors such as Mark Hill and Remzi, who have been my mentors since they once visited our community for mentorship programs regarding how the course can bring change to society. I also desire to study computer science due to my desire to unfold further research in my academics in the field of artificial intelligence.
Apart from my academic interests in computer science, studying the course has also been inspired by my desire to develop innovative skills that can help my community. I come from a community with a poverty rate of 10.2%. As such, every day, I feel that the only way through which my society can be developed is through studying computer science for innovative skills. Such will facilitate the development of how I can help the society to eradicate poverty. Just like Thibault Rihet, a software engineer at Trialog, I also believe that I can utilize the knowledge of computer science to create and execute projects which can solve issues affecting Cheshire, CT. For example, I believe through computer science, and I will be able to offer charitable services to the needy as well as a lasting solution to environmental, health, and poverty menace.
