US and Japanese hopes on capabilities to conquer the Pacific region
Japan is a renowned country on technological advancement since the historical period. Indeed, the competition for technology and confidence in their weapons made the Japanese ignore the potential of the US. Indeed, the Japanese leaders assumed the United States to be residing in economic backwardness. Indeed, China was a large area for Japan to cover with more than one enemy targeted to be defeated once at a time. The Japanese were spreading outwards to conquer the pacific region. Japan aimed at overcoming the enemies through a surprise attack at the outset of the war and capturing of Malaya and the Philippines. The strategies were ineffective and technically limited to defeating the enemies.
The neutrality of the US gave the Japanese hopes on capabilities to conquer the Pacific region. The Japanese Navy began to mobilize its force, and one of the mainstays was pulled out of mainland China to prepare for war. The commander in chief ordered the staff to identify how a surprise attack would impact on the US fleet in Pearl Harbor to ensure there was no blockage of the planned Japanese movement. At this point, the decision conflicted with the policy of the Japanese Navy. The attack on American fleets was possible since the Japanese had better technology than the Americans.
However, the Japanese were later overpowered before they destroyed all of the American fleets. The most crucial point was the destruction of the Japanese fleet by America in the midway and suppression of their economy as well by 1944. In1942-1944, the US forces initiated bloody battles at Guadalcanal and Saipan. The destruction of Japanese fleets disoriented their Navy code of destroying the Americans in a short time. Later, America recaptured the Philippines and started bombing Japan to the extent of leaving the country desperate through Kamikaze attacks. Most of the Japanese cities were burnt through air campaigns allowing America to invade the country. The most memorable moment was in Hiroshima attacks on August 6, 1945, with more than 100,000 people dying. President Truman had to settle the war through peaceful negotiations to save lives.
From the study, the Japanese were overconfident on their technology and ignored the potential of Americans. Indeed, the need to destroy the enemy in a short period was an ill strategy to protect its territories. China was a vast region for the army to control despite having the technology. Importantly, the attack of the Japanese fleet midway weakened the navy. The following attacks weakened the country to the extent of surrender.
