Prices of vegetables sold at the farmers market are lower as compared to those in Walmart supermarkets. Students save their money while shopping in the farmers market supermarkets compared to shopping at Walmart supermarket. The consumer price index is the measurement tool used to indicate the difference in prices (León-Bravo, Caniato, Caridi & Johnsen, 2017).
The quantity of vegetables sold at the farmers market is higher than that of Walmart supermarket. With the same amount of money, students can purchase more vegetables of the same type in the farmers market as compared to Walmart. Mass balances were employed in measuring the quantity of vegetables in the two different markets (Marinas, Bruijnincx, Ftouni, Urbano & Pinel, 2015). The variation of the price is the major factor that would affect the quantity of the vegetable bought in these two different markets. This makes it clear that students would always go for the cheap vegetables sold by the same farmers as compared to the purchase from Walmart.
Vegetables sold in the farmers market are of higher quality compared to those sold in Walmart supermarket (van Noordwijk, Kim, Leimona, Hairiah & Fisher, 2018). College students should consider buying their vegetables in the farmers market since they offer vegetables free from any contamination and non-genetically modified at a considerable price, contrary to those in supermarkets. The fact that vegetables from the Walmart supermarket preserved, the quality would be low as compared to fresh vegetables from the fathers in the market. The vegetables from the farmers are naturally preserved and organizally produced and therefore thisn means the inorganic matter content is low and therefore high healthier as compared to the ones from the supermarket chemically preseved for long time. Penetrometers were used to measure the firmness of greens in the two different markets (Pinazo, Domine, Parvulescu & Petru, 2015).
Waste produced in purchasing vegetables in the farmers market is lower compared to waste in Walmart supermarket. In the farmers’ markets, students will be required to carry baskets unlike in Walmart, where the vegetables are wrapped in polythene bags. Purchasing in the farmers market will contribute significantly to the reduction of carbon footprint (Uyttebroek, Van Hecke & Vanbroekhoven, 2015).The tools of measure employed are the calculation of carbon footprint, which results from buying compost waste. This is very clear indication that the vegetable products from the markets have very less impacts on environment interms of the pollution. The students will all the same retain the baskets used to carry the bought vegetables from the market. This will have no environmental pollution impacts becaus the baskets would be not dumped to the environment after buying the vegeteables products. Moreover, the polythene bags used in wraping the vegetable products from the supper market would definatedly be dumped to the environment and this will have a negative effect to the environment. This would be one of the causes of the environemental pollution considering the large number of the students buying from the supper market.
The shelf life of vegetables purchased from the farmers market is higher compared to that of vegetables in Walmart supermarkets. Vegetables in the farmers market are sourced directly from the farm, while those in the supermarket often take a long time in reaching the market as some are sourced overseas (Petit, Sablayrolles & Yannou-Le Bris, 2018). The shelf life of the vegetable products in the two markets was measured by recording the time taken before decomposition by each product from the two markets.
By purchasing vegetables is in the farmers market, college students have higher chances of taking a balanced diet as compared to buying products from Walmart supermarkets (Conrad, 2018). Besides, there are a wide variety of vegetables in these market hence giving the students a chance to purchasing vegetables of high nutritional value (Chaudhary, Gustafson & Mathys, 2018). Results Analysis
From the market research outcomes, it is clear that vegetables sold in the farmers’ markets are cheaper as compared to those in Walmart supermarket. Besides, the quantity and quality of these goods are also higher as compared to those in the supermarkets (Rutten, 2018). The reason for these findings can be attributed to the low cost involved in the production, transport, and a large number of goods in the farmers market as compared to Walmart supermarkets. Besides, most of the supper markets overrate the price of its products to maximize the profit. The price of the vegetables in the supper market would not be same as that of more quality vegetables in the famers’ market. The vegetables in the Walmart supermarket are sold so expensive may due level and scale of investiments interms of technological preservation methods. Ironically, the quality of the farmers vegetables would be of high quality but the price would be cheaper as compaired to that of the suppermarket. The shelf life of goods is higher in the farmers market due to the less time taken for the vegetables to reach the market (Shafiee-Jood & CAI, 2016).Purchasing vegetables from the farmers market will offer a balanced diet to the college students since there is a wide variety through which they can choose the vegetables to purchase in these markets as compared to supermarkets (Gustafson, 2016).
