This video offers a very non-preachy and balanced approach to what can be a highly contentious topic. It follows the transformation of real people as they are exposed to both the food and ethics of a vegan lifestyle (05:53). For those who are non-vegans, the video provides lots of valuable information in a very accessible and relate-able manner. While the documentary does present some of the gory details about slaughter, and inhuman nature of animal agriculture, it does this factually without being overly sensational or dramatic. The result is a very authentic representation of ordinary people and their reactions to the truth about meat, milk and dairy.

The only thing this movie shows is that people can be swayed by appeals to emotion, even when they are devoid of facts. The documentary gathers incite from a professional nutritionist with well-rounded information regarding American eating culture and the benefits of vegetable diet. The film highlights that we could indeed avert certain lifestyle diseases such as heart attacks and stroke, minimize the risk to cancer and substantially maintain a healthy weight by having a vegetable diet on a routine basis (13:20). Then they spend the rest of the movie showing you torture and people who say they are happy with their extreme diet. This film approaches American Agriculture and diet lifestyle from the perspectives of three citizens who are newly educated about the film’s topics and ideas. Very different from the other films on this thread, this is one for those who do not like to watch documentaries.
There is no question that the film both educates and entertains, albeit with moments passed cringing in reaction to what the daily, ordinary behaviours of American agriculture are. Good overall education on the health benefits of a vegan diet, including the perils of the animal industry and the effects on the environment (53:28). I cried during the images of animal cruelty within the factory farms, but this film is far less graphic than some of the others. However, I like that it shows how the average person can make positive changes toward good health, animal welfare and consideration of the environment (50:12).
As a struggling on-again-off-again vegetarian, this was an excellent documentary to see. It helped me realize why I even started thinking about vegetarianism in the first place, and veganism later. Seeing three people completely change their lives for six weeks and stick with it after the fact was inspiring. Whether or not you believe the problems presented in this documentary are problems (the environmental impact of factory farming, treatment of animals, and many more), this film offers a good look at how one can change their lifestyle.
I can personally ascertain that there are several unhealthy processed foods on the market for vegans which are extremely dangerous to human health. Vegacuted film vividly advocates the worst of them, including extremely high sodium fake meats, soy and hydrogenated oils. However, this film does not advocate for monoculture farming practices for vegetables and fruits. Animal-based agriculture is taking a significant toll on the environment and human health. All the lifestyle diseases – heart disease, many cancers, diabetes, obesity, can be linked to diets high in meat, cheese and eggs. Plus, our planet is being decimated for farmland to grow animals. It is not only unsustainable, but animal farming is also ever more harmful. For the human race to feed its growing populations, and to maintain a habitable planet, we MUST all NOW turn away from meat and turn towards plant-based diets. This very thought-provoking non-preachy shows the actual cost of meat, and how individuals can improve their whole wellbeing just by improving their plant-based food intake. Vegucagted is a great documentary. It is amusing and would be particularly good for students and young people to watch.
