The law considers self-defense as an “affirmative defense,” that is, the law provides justification why the defendant did so, rather than accusing him or her of committing a crime (Kirven, 2019). If the court finds the defendant not guilty, then it is the job of the prosecutor to prove that the force used by the defendant was not necessary.

When self-defense plea is valid

Legally, self-defense is termed to be permissible. However, self-defense considered legal only if you or another individual is in danger from violence or attack and is the only way to stop the attack or violence (Kirven, 2019). Simply, when provoked and challenged and then results in a fight, this does not stand on the grounds of self-defense.

STOP Grand sanctions

The Department Of Justice and violence against women reauthorization act 2005, amends the Violence Against Act of 1994 to set out reviewed grant conditions and definitions which included not requiring matching funds for articles signifying financial needs, standards for sharing and releasing confidential information by subgrantees and grantees and requirements for privacy and protection of confidentiality of an individual getting support from such an Act.

STOP Grant enhancement

The STOP Grant was authorized under the VAWA Act of 1994 and amended and reauthorized by violence against women Act of 2000 and 2005. VAWA 2005 enhanced STOP Grant by strengthening provisions of the Act. This was done by revisiting the GRANT Programs and making the necessary changes, and they ended up creating additional new programs (Conyers, 2007). This also led to the creation of grand conditions and universal definitions in addition to a confidentiality provision. Confidentiality provision applies to all programs that are authorized by VAWA and the legislation. The Act during 2005 reauthorization also has more emphasis on improving and enhancing responses to youth victims, sexual assaults, and the protection of victims in the country of India (Conyers, 2007). GRANT Stop program includes the provision of new formulated sexual-assault-focused programs, the creation, and implementation of a comprehensive VAWA program for all tribunal communities, and new youth-focused programs.
