What are the different types and functions of antibodies present in the body?

Antibodies are an essential part of our immune system as these are the ones that help one to fight against the different kinds of pathogens present around us. One must understand the importance of the presence of these antibodies in the bodies to combat the different types of pathogens entering our body from time to time. There are mainly five types of antibodies present in the human body, depending on their different kinds of functions.

Once the body is infected with the pathogen, the white blood cells identify the presence of the pathogens in the body. Once the identification is made, the respective type of antibodies like the MYC antibody is synthesized and secreted into the blood to combat the ill-effects of the pathogens present in the body. Here is a summary of the types along with the functions of these antibodies present in one’s body:

  • Immunoglobulin A

IgA is the kind of antibody found in the mucosal regions like the vagina and the mouth. It is prevalently found in the saliva, breast milk and the tears. It helps to prevent the adhesion of the pathogens to the epithelial cells of the body. It actively promotes the body to combat autoimmune diseases like the celiac disease.

  • Immunoglobulin G

IgG is the antibody that is being produced by the immunization. This is the one that can neutralize the different kinds of toxins present in the body. It can also eliminate the forms of the pathogenic infections of the body. According to researches, the body can produce different kinds of IgG in the body in response to the diseases by different types of pathogens. Also, this one happens to be the critical antibody as it can cross over the placenta during the stages of pregnancy, thereby providing the much-needed immunity to the growing embryo.

  • Immunoglobulin E

IgE is the one that helps people to combat allergic reactions in the body. It is mostly present in the skin, lungs and the mucous membranes. In the presence of allergens, this one binds to the pathogens and initiates the histamine reactions in the body.

  • Immunoglobulin M

IgM is one of the first kinds of antibodies that is secreted in the body right after the entry of the pathogen. It tends to bind to the target very strongly and hence plays a vital role in the initial stages of the infection by the pathogen.

  • Immunoglobulin D

Lastly, IgD is the type of antibody which is secreted as a response to the infection during the early stages. It does not circulate in the body and only produces signals to activate the respective cells for immunity.

To understand more about such antibodies like the MYC antibody, make sure to refer to a professional. Understanding the types and the working principle of these antibodies in the human body provides one the chance to realize their immune system
