What Is Required of Me to Be a Leader?
I need to be courageous. Leadership requires one to be brave. This is because a leader always faces many challenges on the way. The leader has to be courageous enough to overcome all fears and uncertainties.
I need to be self-motivated. I need to have an internal drive and desire to lead. I should not be forced to lead; instead it should come from me. Leadership is about someone’s choice. Successful leaders are self-motivated, focusing on achieving their goals. Self-motivation is vital as it enables leaders to move on in the face of challenges or setbacks (Senge, 1990). Leaders should be self-driven to work hard and achieve better results for the organization. Self-motivation goes hand in hand with enthusiasm, and a good leader needs to be enthusiastic in their work and their role as leaders. They should be passionate and dedicated to their duties.
Inspiring. A leader should be inspiring. He/she should inspire the team, especially during their low moments. You should motivate your side when things are not working by encouraging them. A leader needs to have a positive attitude for the continued success of a company and keeping the energy levels up. As a leader, it is my responsibility to maintain team morale and keep moving forward (Leithwood & Jantzi, 2008).
I need to be a good problem solver. This is probably the most critical aspect of leadership. For me to be a good leader, I need to be know how to solve problems whenever they arise. Problems are inevitable in any organization, and as a leader, you need to have proper problem-solving skills. You need to be know how to solve problems within the organization between the employees or even with your fellow workers. A leader should make sound decisions for the organization. Decision-making is an indispensable quality of leadership (Leithwood & Jantzi, 2008).
