Where in the World Is Evidence-Based Practice?
Evidence-based practice is essential as it gives direction as far as research use is concerned. In this regard, HIMSS offers insightful information on its website. The data is recent, and the site is updated (“Who we are”, 2020). Immunization is one health aspect documented. The intimation that vaccination leads to better health, reduced costs, and higher productivity, for example, is well documented (“HIMSS Immunization Integration Program”, 2020). Collaboration with different entities to ensure unbiased information is also carried out by HIMSS. I, however, agree that the claim that 2-3 million people are saved through immunization has no resource to back it up. In this regard, the authenticity of the figures is debatable.
HIMSS collaborates with other health partners such as the Center for Disease Control, for example, in offering information on surgical site infection prevention (“tPa Stroke Treatment, Surgical Service Line Enhancements, and ERAS Care Standardization Case Studies”, 2020). The CDC, however, has more in-depth information in comparison to HIMSS. The tobacco use article, for example, has resources that back up the information (“Smoking and Tobacco Use”, 2020). The information on the topic is also broad as it includes treatment and tests, discharge, and outpatient information. In light of this fact, I agree that the website is more thorough.
Both websites are well researched and, as such, offer very insightful information. In this regard, both sites are commendable. The HIMSS website, however, could improve on information back up. Being a global leader in health information with hundreds of partners (“Who we are”, 2020) gives the website an upper hand. Additional insightful details could make the site more informative.
