Why are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?

Introduction

The book is rich with knowledgeable ideas and has got significant themes and topics of substantial impacts on me. Such issues are very relevant to my life and could be very applicable in the rest of my life. This essay will focus on how the following topics, Racial identity, understanding black in the context of white and beyond black and white.

Racial identity

The issue of ethnic identity is a critical topic in the book; the author shows how parents somehow hesitate to talk to their kids based on issues of racism because they could result to awkwardness as well as embarrassment. The parents fear to create racism to their children, and I found this being a very touching topic as it could help me never to make anybody have racism. The parts of our identity that do capture our attention are those that other people notice, and that reflects us.” (Tatum ,1997). The issue of racial identity could start to bring significant differences in society; this could influence one’s beliefs, their work

Dr.Tatum explains that in many of the white people the privilege could never put in consideration of the benefits of being white. The author has empowered me that there is no need of having racial and sexual biases. The author has equipped me with knowledge on how to handle and interact with persons from different ethnic identities since there is no need for any discrimination whatsoever based on one’s race or culture( Tatum ,1997).I believe that one has the right to respect their culture as well as the perception of others this would encourage peace in society.

Understanding Blackness in a White context

There is a need of recognizing the blacks in the white background, similarly right from the preschool children have to understand and notice differences, parents have a responsibility on how to relate and respond to their kids. Discussion based on racism is not a taboo. There is a need for children to understand and learn on racism, social class as well as recognizing their position in society (Tatum ,1997).

Any black should feel empowered while in the midst of the whites there is no need for skin discrimination. I believe that both blacks and the white have equal capabilities in school, politics and well as in the administration, that’s the reason behind my interest of empowering all the black and making them feel the sense of belonging even if they are in foreign cultural context. Similarly, there is a need for utilizing the blacks ideas and opinion in the political and another factor to benefit America. If given the required time and resources I believe that the black will be equal to the white and no one could mistreat them at all. ”I don’t think you are black you don’t behave like all other black children I know” ( Tatum 1997).

Beyond Black and White

There is no significant difference between the black and white we are all equal. There is a need for having an ethical identity search, achieving ethnic identity and unexamined ethnic identity. The book shows that there is a need for making our white teens consider education work for gaining independence from their family .it indicates the interest of the young language as well as their culture. I believe that everyone should move forward in life and advance their dream without much consideration of their ethical backgrounds, therefore, it is essential for users to go beyond being just black and white. Developmental programs should be focusing on neither black no white but to benefit all races. “She is not really black she went to Florida and got really dark tan” ( Tatum 1997).

Conclusion

In a nutshell, it is very crucial that as explained above I found the book very touching and discussing on the main critical issue in contemporary society such as racial identity Understanding Blackness in a White context and Beyond Black and White, these are crucial, knowledgeable areas and could help me while interacting with the society.
