Why are people moving out of California?
Introduction
This research paper endeavors to find out the reason many people have been leaving the state of California in the recent past. It delves deep into specific variables, which are the high cost of living, the stiff regulations, and the natural hazards such as floods and fires.
Purpose of the research
There exist been perceptions of people leaving California, but much has not been done on the reasons why this is taking place. This paper handles variables such as stiff regulations, floods, and fires that have seen the loss of lives and properties. Furthermore, the other factor that is highlighted is the high cost of living in this state of California.

This study is essential to the stakeholders of the California state; the local government, those who wish to invest in the state, and the immigrants from other parts of the world who would consider living in this state in the future.
Limitations of the project
Since the data collection will be achieved by using questionnaires. It is deemed that some respondents may hold back useful information. But since the data will be backed up by reports from various departments, including the immigration department, this issue will be kept in check.
CHAPTER TWO
LITERATURE REVIEW
Introduction
In the previous year, 2019, more than 691,000 people who lived in California State moved out. The data, as mentioned earlier, was furnished courtesy of the census that was conducted in 2018 (Olda, 2018). It has been reported that this has been happening for the last seven years. The number of people leaving the orange county more than any other county within the state, the other countries that have seen a considerable amount of people going for different regions is the Golden States. At the same time, few are moving in (Olda, 2018). The migration department released a report that was issued by the statement Finance research (demographics) unit. A total of thirty-one million people has been kept in check by foreign immigration and births. Most of those foreigners are Asians and Hispanics (Olda, 2018). The chapter will handle key sub-topics for the reason of people leaving California in large numbers; they include; stifling regulations, high cost of living and, floods and fires.
The high cost of living
There reasons people are moving out California state that once was the darling of people in the United States of America. One of the formidable reasons that allude to people going has nothing to do with wildfires or unfavorable weather conditions; it is the high cost of living. It is considered as a state of extremes (Josephson, 2019). Withal it’s a place where many a home many rich people call home. There number of issues that cause this place to be rocket high, for instance, high-income tax. For example, in the golden state, the most significant portion when it comes to their budgets goes to housing (Josephson, 2019). Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
Nevertheless, there is a wide range of the cost of accommodation from the super expensive cities to smaller cities around California state. For instance, mean home worth in the city of San Francisco goes for $1,304,885, while some of the cities that are regarded as small falls to a value of $355,030 (Josephson, 2019). A report released in March revealed that the average for a simple two-bedroom apartment goes for $1,175. Most cities in California were considered to be very expensive. Comparing the cost in Los Angeles goes for $1,752. This amount is $577 higher compared to the national median. The case in San Diego is not better either; the average for the monthly rent goes for $2030, which is considered to be more than $855 compared to the national average.
The cost in utilities is further above in this state, in accordance with the information of energy furnished by the EIA, the state of California uses electricity bill of more than $101.49 every month, for instance, costly of about 554kWh each month. Withal, they pay an average electricity bill of $149.33. Furthermore, the cost of foodstuffs in California are considered expensive. Following the MIT Living salary calculator, an adult without children in this state needs more than $30,392 devoid of taxes (Josephson, 2019). It further reveals that food expenses account for more than $3,573, which makes up more than 11.8 %. The underlying assumption is that this is the least wage of living and therefore doesn’t consider factoring in luxuries. In other areas of California, for instance, in Fresno, a gallon of milk together with a dozen eggs goes for $2.91 and $1.83, respectively. Considering the national prices for these commodities goes for $3.10 and 2.26 milk and a dozen eggs correspondingly. The list of the high cost of living in Texas is long. Factors that throw this above the ceiling are the taxes where the tax bracket with a rate of 12.3 % though it assumes a progressive nature (Josephson, 2019). Withal if one charge goes over 1% surtax overboard of 12.3 % rate, it brings the total tax to 13.3%.
Climate threats
There are furthermore danger and climate threats that include floods, wildfires, and blackouts because of the weather condition. These factors are a perfect recipe for causing diverse people to come out of California (Nicholas, 2019). Over the recent past in California, the amount of rainfall pouring down in a year happens within 90 days from December and the end of February. As it continues to rain heavily, the condition results in dangerous mudslides and catastrophic floods. It further accounted for the death of more than twenty-three people. Withal, there more fire threats in the recent past in California (Nicholas, 2019). In 2017 the Thomas fire reduced a significant proportion of California State to ashes. It saw more than 281,893 area piece of land before it was finally kept in check almost forty days from the onset of the fire.
Stifling regulations
California is known for its high taxes and an environment characterized by stifling regulation. In the year 2016, it was reported that more than 1800 businesses disinvested or relocated. It is further noted that in 2016, more than 13000 companies left California along those nine years (Nicholas, 2019). Those, as mentioned earlier, the stiff laws that are put in place, for instance, the new worker protection (Immigrant) act that fines companies when they follow federal immigration law. This particular law generates a heightened level of a dilemma for business owners; they are likely to be fined from the federal government or the state (Nicholas, 2019). This state penalizes a business person who is a legal citizen and handling a legitimate business that is in tandem with all federal, local, and state laws (Nicholas, 2019). They further punish those who make sure they pay the local taxes, those creating employment, and the state as well. What pains the business community is the fact that the country seems to be less attentive to the issues pressing them. It is further noted that there are a plethora of other regulations and laws that California business should keep in check and the concern of the future uncertainties. Most of these reasons have been linked with the colossal number of people leaving the golden states. The companies or business that has exited the state includes Chevron, Toyota, occidental petroleum, Jamba juice, and Nestle USA (Nicholas, 2019).
Summary of the literature review
This section handled the main reasons why there has been moved out of the California state over the recent past. It has employed other past research works done by other authors, students, researchers, and reports from other institutions, for instance, the national census. The main reasons that have been touched include; stiff regulations, floods and fires, and, finally, the high cost of living. The chapter looked into variables that will be looked into in section that will follow this (Methodology).
CHAPTER THREE
METHODOLOGY
Introduction
This chapter takes into account the design that the research will assume the participants in the study, the setting, instruments, the procedures of the investigation. This chapter will further consider the method of analysis that will be employed, and finally, it will summarise the entire chapter.
Research design.
The manner of steps employed to earnest information is referred to as the research design (Bougie & Sekaran, 2020). It further examines to get a great depth of information. He also asserts that the research design aims at maximizing the knowledge of a specific or explicit topic. He further states that it assumes three key steps; the first is modeling a problem, the following action handles the gathering of data to answer the question to fit the answer, and then finally, it offers a response to the problem (Bougie & Sekaran, 2020).
The study method that will be employed in this case is the descriptive analysis. It is attached earnest data on habits, attitudes, thoughts, and preferences in regard to the elements of the respondents (Bougie & Sekaran, 2020). In accordance to Sekaran the final research model is a sort of model that assumes utilization of the gathered information, on the current status of events to describe and quote; what exists and quote; in accordance to situations and elements in a condition in a specific period in time (Bougie & Sekaran, 2020).
The qualitative and quantitative (mixed design) will be employed In the research collection of data, analysis and, even the interpretation of data. The qualitative research seeks to define and analyze the behavior and history of individuals and the case study from the investigation subject.
Participants of this research
The population is the whole set of assemblages for which the study data are applied to make assumptions. The target population describes the units for which the decisions of the study are expected to be generalized (Bougie & Sekaran, 2020). This research will collect data from the inhabitants of the State of California and its counties, the business people, and the local government.
Setting
The setting of this study is in California State in the United States of America. The research will touch the surrounding regions around California. The study will be conducted in California, where the data that will be collected is expected to reflect on the total population of California. The data are drawn from the community likely is enough to give the interpretation of the study conducted.
Instruments
Data collection instruments are a rudimental part of the research. If systematic and accuracy of data is anything to go by, then the research instruments are to be selected with precision (Goddard & Melville, 2011). The tools that will be employed in the research is questionnaire. This will be of the essence in the collection of data. Furthermore, Key informant schedules, Tape recorder, Research notebook, Observation checklist will be employed by the researcher.
Procedure
The planning procedure employs data collected and data from other studies that were captured in the literature review and on a different section of the survey. Authentic and valid results from the collected data will then be analyzed in a manner that it can be interpreted as a formidable foundation to put in place the proposed area (Goddard & Melville, 2011). The research assumes both the qualitative and quantitative analysis of data. The data will be analyzed using the R-statistical package, and the drawn conclusion will be presented using graphs and charts. The researcher will then conclude and give a favorable recommendation to the research study.
The analysis
Quantitative data will be analyzed using the R- statistical package, and the drawn data conclusion will be presented using graphs, charts, and tables where necessary for interpretation and understanding of the existing plan of the area. Linear models will describe a continuous response variable as a function of one or more predictor variables. They will help us understand and predict the behavior of complex systems or analyze experimental, financial, and biological data (Goddard & Melville, 2011).
