Workers compensation ecosystem
Workers’ compensation is defined as a type of business insurance coverage, which helps in paying for medical expenses as well as rehabilitating the costs if employees get injured or get sick while working (Campos et al., 2019). It is a system where insurance reimburses the damages of employees, which took place in the course of employment (Chu et al., 2019). The essay aims at showing how Silo and the old school model of compensation lead to higher costs in workers’ compensation and healthcare as well as showing how workers’ compensation insurance can be impacted negatively (Shapiro‐Garza, 2020). Below are the two columns of the two models that contribute a lot to the high cost of workers ‘compensation and healthcare. Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
SILO MODEL In the workplace, the silo model is used to represent people, teams, and companies who have the same objectives. However, they do not talk to one another or else exchanging information. As a result, it leads to the wastage of time, wastage of cost, and even wasting the opportunities that they could have gathered among themselves if only they were able to speak out their minds (Feng & Yuan2019). Therefore there is a need for the organization to come up with a way of reducing silos among human beings, such as introducing technology, which will help the communication to be done more effectively hence ensuring that the organization work is done effectively. The main challenge with this model is that people are not talking; they are not ready to share at all what they have in mind or else what they may be going through when they are working. For instance, there comes a time when employees notice that some machines are not working well, and they can easily cause damages to others; hence they still don’t want to share with or alert others. In the above picture, that person is feeling lonely; he looking for a person whom they can share and exchange of business to allow them to conduct business well( Feng & Yuan,2019).
As shown in the above picture, it shows that all those people have a common objective idea of finishing this building and start working together (Feng & Yuan,2019). However, everyone has his duty; no one is talking to the other. Therefore, the high chances are they will take more time, they will spend more funds, and people are likely to be damaged because no one is advising on the other hence causing more cost of compensations. Following are the primary elements in SILO model that leads to the high cost of compensation to its workers: Increase in Leakage, The term is mostly used in the business world as a way of warning against limited pools of knowledge and experience. The limited networks blind us to the entire organization or the communities and blindness, which hinders growth and understanding. The research shows that we all live in a silo of our own making who we decide to be associated with, who we choose to ignore, where we want to get the news from, the cities we come from and even ways in which we advertise our brands (Rosenberg et al.,2017). Leakage in the silo model for the last decade has been increasing as a result of people not being confident to say out what has been happening in the organization.
Many organization has struggled on managing the toxic commentary; some organization has been forced to turn off the components sections, another system where employes are allowed to upvote and downvote comments that result in accrued reputations. For many years, there has been an increase in leakages in this model, which is very harmful to the employees. As a result, the damages tend to increase the cost of workers’ compensation because when such leakages happen, they tend to affects the health of employees.
Increase in fraud Fraud occurs when people provide wrong information to get financial or benefit as a person. In the previous decade the instances of fraud have been witnessed where people fake news, they provide false information to show that they work in a particular organization and others counterfeit injuries to be compensated (Rosenberg et al.,2017). The act has been increasing as a result of advanced technology; in the early days, people had no idea how to use technology, and so such frauds were rarely experienced. Currently, almost all people know how to apply technology, everyday people are coming up with new means of using computers as well as coming up with new ideas. Therefore it is advisable that before the insurance company gives out the compensation to first have complete information and evidence that indeed, that employee qualifies to be compensated. The cost of payment to workers has increased because many people are faking injuries, many are providing wrong information, and other people who are not entirely involved in such companies are also claiming to be injured to be compensated. Increase in lost time, Time is wasted more because people are not cooperative, they are not working together, and so to correct the right information, it requires a lot of time (Rosenberg et al., 2017). Silo model includes people who have common objectives; however, the same people no longer talk to one another; in this situation, what do you expect? In such organization, you hope people to waste a lot of time because everyone has his or her ideas, but they are not willing at all to share due to the fear that one might get more business idea that other.
People In the Silo method tend to work on their own hence spending more time because the task that is performed by individuals in months when a group comes together, it comes become the same takes in days. The research shows that for the last decade, the performance of Silo has not been excellent because various people or groups are not willing to share what can be helpful to others. It this case, some people tend to perform well in their workplace while others tend to play very poorly; this is because some people need the advice of others for them to make it in their workplace while others can do it on their own Rosenberg et al.,2017). As a result, the gap continues to be higher, and it becomes tough to eliminate it as the days are moving. It is advisable that the organization come up with ways in which employees will not wastes a lot of time, and there are fewer damages. Incorrect estimates (under reserved and over reserved) Incorrect calculations occur when the wrong information is provided. For instance, some employees may claim more compensation when they want to benefit from the organization (Rosenberg et al., 2017). However, people may claim less compensation if they have no idea what process to follow to get back their benefit, In some other cases, employees are forced to indicate less payment by their employers. For the last decade, the fact of under and overpayment to employees has been increasing. This has been a result of corruption where the top people want to benefit also, and in the cases where they don’t want employees to help so, they may require them to present less compensation as it is necessary. The more the estimates, the more the payment and the more the insurance from the insurance and vice verse. This can negatively affect the company because in a case where employees got more injured, but they are given less compensation. Therefore, they are likely to get more time to be treated hence making the output of the organization to be low Rosenberg et al.,2017).On the other hand, when there is more compensation done than it was required, the insurance company is likely to spend more, and employees might feel encouraged to ask more funds hence creating fake injuries in the course of working. Increase in time-consuming, More time is consumed in this model in making the right decision, trying to come up with the best possible way of working out, and bringing the best to the organization( Rotter et al.,2019). This may be a result of doing work individually without necessarily wanting to involve other people. Therefore in case of injuries happens, employees will as well consume a lot of time deciding what to do and how to go about it. The results are that even in the course of compensation, the system is likely to be slow because employees have not idea on how to do it or maybe because they don’t have someone to help them since they might be in severe pain or being injured more( Rotter et al.,2019).
The more time they consume, the more the organization is producing less output hence worsening the performance of the organization as well as worsening their health as well. The more the employees take time to be compensated, the more the compensation he may demand because of wasting his resources and time hence making the cost of payment increase.
Lag time reporting This is the time between when the injury occurred at work and when the insurance company may make the compensation. Lag time reporting tends to have a high cost of payment because the more the company may delay in paying, the more the employees need more funds. For instance, in the situation where employees get injured, and they are admitted to the hospital. It means that they have to stay in the hospital until the bill is cleared by the insurance responsible. However, what happens in a case when the insurance delay in paying the bills, yet the employees recovered their health? It means that they have to stay in the hospital until the invoice is cleared.
It means that if he exceeded by one or two months, the insurance has to pay for all services that were provided to the patients all that period, hence becoming a high cost to the system as well as creating a negative impact on the organization. This is because employees have to be paid for the days that he was not working, yet he did not make any output for the organization (Rotter et al.,2019). Therefore it is advisable that as soon as employees get injured, the insurance company acts up them as first as possible to eliminate all the extra charges that are likely to take when they delay in paying employees compensations.
| OLD SCHOOL MODEL
The model of the old school is an enjoyable model of a flying, and it is friendly for the beginner of the builder (Tseng & Pluta,2020). The model is predictable, and it is stable when flying at both low speed and at the top of the throttle. The work of the old school model guarantee that kits will be free from defects in both materials and artistry during the purchasing date. However, the warrant does not cover pars of the kids, which are damaged by the users. The old school model loves building kits and doing great design.
In the old school model here, people are jovial, and they enjoy a lot as compared to the silo model where people remain to be quiet always despite their joint objectives in business (Tseng, & Pluta, 2020) However, this model could be experiencing a challenge because people may easily get injured because they want to use kits to fly all the time without concerning the speed they are using or even the safety of these kits (Tseng & Pluta, 2020).
Therefore people end up requesting compensation because using kits is very dangerous, and it involves risking around with the life of an individual. The charges may be demanded more as a way of paying back those who get injured in the course of using these kits.
Here is the primary element old school model, which contributes a lot in the high cost of compensation to the workers when they get injured:
Increase in Leakage, Increased leakages have been increasingly reported for the last decade. The leakage increase more in the workplace as a result of an organization employing workers who are not faithful trusted in the organization. For instance, old school mostly deals with the kits where people are supposed to enjoy themselves without any fear because they are assured that packages are in safe hand. However, in a case where income and the resources are reported to be reducing or go missing people yet are using those kits; it means that people who have been assigned that duties are not performing their tasks well.
Also, in a case where the same employees are not responsible for the nature of the kits hence making them to be a risk or to be in poor conditions, it means that they are making the lives of other people to be in danger of even dying. Anytime Leakage happens in the organization; it brings loss to the organization because the organization will be forced to use extra cost that it had not planned for( George & Spada,2019). Also, employees might see as an opportunity to ask for more compensation claiming that when leakages happened, they were harmed more, and they may request that their health is not in good condition hence demanding compensation payment.
Increase in fraud, The act of cheating is a result of people wanting to benefit from what they don’t deserve. For instance, in the old school model, it might be an excellent opportunity for employees to fake documents and claims that they were injured while working (George & Spada, G. (2019).This is a sensitive field that requires people assigned in these areas to be keen because if a person gets injured, it might be severe. For the last decades, the cases of fraud have been increasing; people are pretending to get hurt to get paid. As a result, they end up making the organization go under loss because of the compensation made to employees when they get injured. It is a contribution that is mostly made by the company (George & Spada,2019). More cost of compensation is made because the insurance company has to go through a lot of procedures, ensuring that the information provided is not faked and that the employees are claiming for the compensation they deserve to get the payments. Increase in lost time, Increased loss of time usually happens when the people responsible for giving out the compensation funds are not flexible or are not used in this field ( Duggal et al.,2019). For instance, when employees claim their compensation for the loss they incurred in the course of work, people responsible for giving out benefits will react to this issue differently hence wasting a lot of time. For instance, some people suggest that the insurance company must be given a period to do an investigation on whether it is accurate or false, whether the employees got injured or they did not get injured. Others will ignorance fail to give out compensation to the employees, and maybe the situation may be worsening. Therefore they end up wasting more time, which at the result of the high cost of compensation because in the end, the payment will have to be made as well as paying all the time wasted. Therefore the organization seems to be affected negatively because many clients seem not to trust these kits again because they are reported to be causing accidents.
Incorrect estimates (under reserved and over reserved), Inaccurate estimation of the employee is the leading cause of the high cost of compensation. In most cases, employee overestimates their value depending on which insurance is responsible for their benefit. When this happens, the company is likely to go loss because was the insurance company is paying more funds the same way the organization will be expected to pay more to the insurance company. Employees here in old school tend to ask more because they pretend that their job is more risk, and so in case of accidents happen, they are likely to be paid more as compared to other organizations. Therefore to solve this, there is a need for an organization to ensure that its objects are well checked, and they are operating well to reduce the chances of causing injuries, which will bring negative impacts to the organization. Increase in time-consuming, The more people get injured, the more time is consumed. Time is wasted more depending on the nature of the injury, as well as how the insurance is responding to the situations (Duggal et al.,2019). Also, more tike is consumed when trying to get full information about how accidents occurred and what was the leading cause of everything. As a result, the organization seems to be performing poorly depending on the number of employees who got injured, which results in more cost of compensation. As a result, more charge is consumed in ensuring that the health of employees is in good condition and that they can get back to their healthy lives.
Lag time reporting. Lag time reporting it has been said to be the leading cause of making insurance to spent more cost of compensation. For instance, if a persona was comfortably enjoying with kits, then an accident happens to occur, they seem to take the people responsible tend to take time before taking the case to the police and later taking the person to the hospital. The process seems to take long because employees here tend to get injured more, therefore, making the process of clearing to belong as well as the patients will consequently demand the cost of compensation and the cost of being delayed. Hence, the organization is likely to lose both employees and a lot of funds, which will be used to compensate employees ( Duggal et al.,2019). To overcome these challenges, the organization should come up with the best schedule of ensuring that that they are looking for funds to meet their objectives. The working conditions of all their employees should be right to eliminate the cost of compensation, which will be done in case any of their employees get injured.

Recommendations
Giving out compensations to employees when they get injured or when they get sick is very okay. However, I recommend that before the payment is made, the organization should have enough evidence and the right information showing that they deserve to be compensated for the loss they underwent. The injury occurred in the course of employment. The high cost of compensation in both Silo and the old school model occurs as a result of people providing wrong information concerning the injury they are claiming to be compensated. To the organization, I recommend that before employees are assigned any duty in the workplace, it should consider that there are right working conditions and their health okay.
I recommend that workers’ compensation ecosystem should look for a possible means that it will be able to identify the workers of Silo and the old school model quickly. To ensure that when they come claiming for their compensation, they cannot take much time as a way of reducing the high cost of payment, which generally hurts the organization hence making it not to get to its target. Finally, for the last decade, the two models have been reported to play a significant role in increasing the cost of compensation. Therefore, I recommend that there should be other best models that can be applied, which will not increase the value of benefits.
Conclusion
The above information provided shows that the cost of compensation of workers can be high depending on which ways employees are used to claiming their payments. It shows that for the last decade, people have been faking documents, providing wrong information to get more benefit as well as get what they do not deserve. There is a need for employees’ compensation when they get injured. However, it should be genuine, and all evidence should be provided, showing that truly that person needs to be compensated.
