working with a hospitality firm
Part 1
During one of my part-time, as I worked with a hospitality firm, the senior manager tasked me with leading the sales team. I acted as the link between the top management and the team members. One of the employees came to work late, and the senior manager was concerned that the behavior could impact the firm negatively. He tasked me with giving the team member with feedback concerning the act. I was expected to explain how the action negated the firm’s value, mission, and vision statement, thus risked the facility to ultimate failure. Besides, I had to point out that the conduct violated the firm’s policies and demotivated other workers. The feedback was warmly welcomed. She acknowledged the problem and explained that she had lost her mother hence had to prepare other siblings for school. I feel that my approach was not perfect. Starting from the positive and asking the employee about the causes of the behavior could have enabled me to adopt an excellent strategy in giving the feedback by consoling with her first.
Part 2
I recently got feedback from the senior manager, appreciating me for the commitment and excellent performance when tasked with leading a team. The conversation was excellent, and he guided me on the best approaches to ensure that I perfect my way of giving feedback. He emphasized the need to have a passionate plan when communicating with others, mainly when tasked with a leadership position. I felt motivated by the complements. The feedback was constructive and fundamental towards improving my academic and professional life. From the feedback, I realized that the approach used to communicate with others influences the way they perceive us. Arguably, the feedback enabled me to understand that appreciation of other people’s success before giving the negative side can lead to constructive feedback.
