The Woman with a hat essay

The Woman with a hat is a painting by a Spanish named Pablo Picasso that was done in 1962. Picasso painted several variations on the woman with a hat theme in the winter of 1962. For instance, Picasso drew two paintings that are similar to the woman with the hat, 1962, which are dated as of 14 January of the same year. These types of art can be considered as realistic expressions. The background of the painting is completed with one color. In the painting, the woman is the primary focus point. Also, in the picture, the woman is wearing a hat that shows her beauty as well as style. Besides, when drawing the picture, Picasso was inspired by his wife Jacqueline, whom they got married in 1961, and soon after their wedding, they relocated into the Villa Notre-Dame-de-Vie located in Mougins. In most of his works, Picasso’s wife often appeared in his drawings wearing fantastic hats such as the straw schemer portrayed in the picture.

Moreover, Picasso, in his painting, used a noticeable feature of the unbalanced treatment of the eyes where the left eye stares motionlessly into space. On the other hand, the right eye creates a real-life impression. Equally, in the painting, Picasso displayed a woman’s face that is not proportional because he used various colors hence showing the imbalance. The primary colors that are used in the paintings of a woman with a hat are red, black, yellow, grey, and sky-blue. Additionally, the painting has many curves and a few lines with no curves. Similarly, the mood, as well as the visual impact, shows that the painting can be seen as that of sadness as well as shock.

Analyze

The colors that are used by Picasso in his painting, a woman with a hat, are different from one another as each of them contains several impressions. For instance, the black color used to draw the eyes shows shock. Besides, the yellow and the red colors in the woman’s face are used by Picasso to convey grief. Equally, the black and green colors in the mouth are used by the painter to show the woman’s state of surprise. Likewise, the painting is drawn mainly with curves showing that the woman does not have robust physical features since the use of lines in the drawing shows substantial technical aspects. Also, the woman’s head is covered by a hat that contributes to her sense of style.

Interpretation

I believe that through the picture, Picasso wanted to show the audience that even the women with a certain sense of style can be grieved. For instance, in the painting, Picasso uses a woman wearing a hat, yet tears are seen in her eyes. Besides, in the art, Picasso shows how several women try to look smart despite the conditions they are going through. For instance, in the picture, Picasso draws a woman whose left eye is staring at the space, thus showing the woman is a bit disturbed and surprised. Through his paintings, Picasso has been able to express the behavior as well as the feelings of the woman in the picture many times, and he often describes the frequent tears that are seen falling from her eyes. Also, through the painting, Picasso wanted individuals to understand the sadness that the woman is going through despite her elegance. Lastly, through the painting Picasso shows the appreciation that he has for the woman by wanting his audience to understand as well as comprehend the woman.

Judge

Due to many colors that are used by Picasso in his painting I found the interpretation of parts of the face to be confusing because some of the colors used does not align with the part used in the face. Also, the painting by Picasso represents the whole community of women who are able to understand and tell what Picasso was trying to demonstrate through his painting of the woman with the hat. Most women are able to understand Picasso’s painting because they have been through similar circumstances as provided by the drawing. Besides, the interpretation of the art is difficult because apart from the woman having a hat Picasso uses other paints within the real face of the woman hence making it difficult to understand the message he was trying to convey to his audience. Likewise, the shapes used by Picasso in his paintings makes it hard to understand what he wants to tell the viewers. For instance, he used both straight and curved lines in his painting.

In conclusion, Picasso uses various features in his paintings, intending to pass certain information. For instance, he uses several colors, which all have multiple meanings. Besides, through his paintings, Picasso wants to express certain feelings as well as experiences that women go through. Lastly, although Picasso has been able to convey his desired message, the use of many colors makes it difficult for one to interpret the work entirely.
