Four astronauts have been shortlisted for the next Gaganyaan mission.
The whole world had seen the problems and success of the previous mission that was held in 2019. Chandrayaan 3 has also been approved with the gaganyaan mission. Now talking for Gaganyaan, ISRO chief briefed about the four astronauts who have been shortlisted, but their names are not disclosed yet. These four astronauts will be trained for this mission, and this training will be given in Russia as well as India by the third week of January, told by ISRO chief in a press conference held in Bengaluru. Briefly what is this mission about- 4 astronauts will be to space for seven days in the year 2022 as part of the Indian Human Space Programme. Highlights of the mission:
- The expected budget for this mission, Rs 10,000 crores.
- 3 astronauts will be sent to an Earth-centred orbit in a crew capsule with the help of Geo-Synchronous Launch Vehicle (GSLV).
- India would be ranked as the fourth country in the world to achieve this goal if Gaganyaan is successful.
- This is the manned mission in which ISRO will work on the rockets that are fit to carry a man in the Earth lower orbit altitude at 2000 km.
- Before this mission, two unmanned missions will be conducted to check the ability to send humans and bringing them back safely.
- The astronauts selected are from Indian Air Force and are shortlisted based on medical and fitness test conducted at Institute of Aerospace Medicine (IAM)
Giving this information ISRO chief also has updated on the Chandrayaan two and Chandrayaan 3 saying that this year will be full of missions and meaningful tasks. Talking about Chandrayaan 2, ISRO chief has said that they know where the satellite is and how to fix the problem. Concerning this mission, they have decided to go for the three mission to improvise the soft and safe landing as we all know all Chandrayaan 2 has been landed. This means that the Chandrayaan-3 will also have a lander and a rover with a propulsion module. The total budget for this mission has been set to Rs 615 crores. This mission will be conducted in 14-16 months from now. Apart from these missions, ISRO is not tired, yet there are some other minor projects going on such as at-least ten satellites will be launched: Gisat1 and Gisat-12R for advanced communication and other Risat-2BR2, Microsat for surveillance.
All in all, the chief said that this year would be one step ahead of all. Just as the year 2019 where ISRO had 13 missions in total that includes 6 launch vehicle missions. This year, 2020 promises to be a good year for the Space research organization.
