adolescent and youths in Kenya have inadequate knowledge regarding EC
Besides, most adolescent and youths in Kenya have inadequate knowledge regarding EC. A study among university students found that 52% have limited knowledge regarding ECs (Gichangi et al., 1999). They lack correct knowledge on EC, and this calls for innovative approaches to educate them on ECs as an approach to prevent unintended pregnancies. Besides, uneducated youths depend on their colleges in colleges to get information on SRH, including ECs. Hence, the provision of the right information will be vital in ensuring that society is also informed with accurate information (Isaiah, 2017).
Most young people who use ECs source them from the clinics in town, far from their area of residence and universities. This has been perceived to be as a result of social fear of being perceived immoral and promiscuous (Isaiah, 2017).
Most young people who are sexually active in college and university in Kenya engage in unprotected sex with their partners. While most know the availability of EC, most do not have accurate information regarding their usage, dosage for effective use. Even among those aware of the EC availability, only a few were found to have ever used them. It was concluded that there was need for comprehensive SRH education to offer the correct information among the youths and to put in place structures for contraceptive counselling for them (Nyawade, 2012).
