Alexis de Tocqueville was a historian, a sociologist, and a political theorist from France. Alexis was born in France, sometimes back in 1805. He studied law at Metz College and got a chance to work as a Magistrate. (Silva & Clark 2018) He left his country France and headed to the United States in the early 1830s, where he began his career in politics. He started his career in 1839 through 1851, on which he became a member of the lower houses in parliament. During that time, the country restricted the free movement of goods and services. It was in that period that he stood firm and defended the trade that it should be open and no unnecessary restrictions.

While in the States, Tocqueville did extensive research in the prisons. He wanted to find out the living standards of the prisoners and how they are treated there. Tocqueville also got a chance to travel to other parts of the states, and all this took notes on everything observed. He looked upon the States and discovered it comprised of people who were hardworking to make money, making it is an economy more stable.

He makes history as he played a crucial role in ensuring that there is democracy in the United States. It is after he came up with a book having the same title in the year 1835, where he wrote about having the new world. Tocqueville was on the front line. ( DeToqueville, 2019).He was one man that advocated for the need for liberty. He did not side with any political wing, but he believed in respect of human rights. That is equality between rich and poor, the learned class, and the un-learned. Although he emphasized so much on the issue of equality, he later acknowledged that when people become on the same level, they might not be able to defend themselves. Therefore he saw the need for having a class comprising of more strong people that they may be able to protect the weak.

Multiple Tradition Thesis

It includes a class politics analyst from the United Stateswho has emerged after the long-gone era of Tocqueville. Thus they have come up with their views concerning Tocqueville’s story. The views from one analyst to the other as some give positive opinions while others are of the negative.

Elite interest

It comprises a minor group of people who happened to be the most privilege class in society. That is because of the wealth, political power they hold. Hence they are top-ranked compared to any level.

Comparison

Tocqueville, the multiple tradition thesis, and the elite all agree on some aspects.

  1. They all believe in democracy. It allows people of the State so long as one is a citizen to participate in the issues of the government. For example, voting and the amendment of the constitution.
  2. Concerning wealth, they all agreed that that wealth could come through hardworking. Thus encouraged the people t work hard to make enough money, which will not only change their lives but the nation at large.

Differences

  1. The multiple traditions thesis argues that having thoroughly liberal and republican in the system, it becomes a threat to them. That includes the white Christians, the Anglo-Saxon, whereby it will question their high privileges.
  2. They also of the concern that the country at large as it has to move in a serpentine manner.
  3. They also do not embrace new beliefs in the institutions as they believe the United States is a country formed on its principals.

How the perspectives have shaped the country

Today the United States still embraces Tocqueville’s works on the issues of liberalism equality. His work is always read by many today, especially the political wing, to find out more what leads to tyranny and the best methods of dealing with it. The States hasa constitution that guarantees its citizens freedom and equality. There is freedom for expression whereby the people can express themselves if they notice something unusual with the government. Balance also provides equal chances for any American citizen to vie for any position so long as they have the necessary qualifications as per the constitution.

The elites today have a loud voice in matters of all matters concerning politics. They are capable of making a better decision as compared to the other class. It is because of the excellent skills they possess. However, sometimes they do make wrong decisions of which when the populace learns of it, then amendments made. Therefore they have helped in shaping the image of the country both politically and economically. That is by transforming various institutions and thus has led to the prosperity of the nation.

In his days, Tocqueville had given a stern warning concerning the new forms of tyranny. Since the adoption of radical equality, it paved the way for materialism. Many people, especially those I power, started grabbing materials and resources, and hence it brought about selfishness and individualism. He talked about racism and discrimination. Which has been an issue in the country, but through his writings, people have learned to appreciate each other.

Conclusion

Alexis is one of the greatest men in history because of his works and contribution. According to him, equality was the greatest thing that human beings needed to acknowledge. (Morrow2017).  Many people did not buy his idea; it is correct to conclude that his writings have inspired many, brought reforms, and above all, equality.
