Cybersecurity has become an integral part of many organizations. Security threat has evolved and continues to grow as technology advances. Different organizations have adopted strategies that allow them to work seamlessly as a result. Collaboration, in this case, not only refers to various departments in an organization but various organizations as well. A change in technology ultimately translates to a change in cybersecurity measures (Howard, 2016, p298). Physical and digital security has to work in tandem. Budget cuts, as a result, hugely affect the cybersecurity function of organizations.

Complacency by cybersecurity personnel plays a role in the lack of seriousness accorded to the department. Complacency includes but is not limited to redundant operation procedures, inadequate security measures, and a lack of or flawed risk assessment procedure. It thus means that for cybersecurity to be accorded the necessary attention, cybersecurity personnel have to stay abreast and implement technological advances. As a cybersecurity officer, this information would be vital in implementing customer online data security measures.

The CSO can be hired temporarily; hence the company does not have to invest a lot in cybersecurity measures. Customer need is a direct indication of the broader security threats in existence. Hiring a CSO for this purpose would thus keep the company abreast in terms of current security needs hence implement short term and long term solutions accordingly. The timely implementation of solutions would ultimately keep the company ahead of the competition.  Becoming a part of a team or building an alliance with an organization that focuses on emerging technology trends (Dobrygowski, 2019) is yet another way of staying ahead of the competition. Such an association keeps the company informed as far as cybersecurity measures are concerned. Offering security not only puts a company ahead of its competition but equally increases customer trust.

Ensuring the Board Understands Security Is Synchronized With the Board on Higher-Level Objectives

Cybersecurity over the years has become a fundamental organization function alongside other functions such as finance, procurement, administration, and human resource, for example. In this regard, the security department requires funding like any other department in an organization. It, however, has sometimes been regarded as unnecessary expenditure by some companies. For ample cybersecurity measures to be adequately implemented in an organization, the board has to understand its relevance.

Physical and digital security has to work in tandem. However, for this to happen, the personnel involved should not only outline the problem and possible solutions. Making the board understand how these measures would improve the organizations’ bottom line is essential. It is important to note that the public transport system, for example, is a business like any other. In this regard, profitability is necessary. Mapping out a security process that realizes profitability and is in line with the company objectives would have a better impact. In this regard carrying out a SWOT analysis is crucial as it gives a clear picture of the opportunities available.
