analytical argument using the play Othello and the novel Namesake
Please write a 6 page (double spaced) analytical argument using the play Othello and the novel Namesake. In addition, use the 2 scholarly secondary sources to support the premise of the thesis. Essentially, i want you to show how the main characters in these two works (Othello and Namesake) are insecure. and then prove using these quotes (you DO NOT have to use all the quotes) that no matter what ethnic group we are from we all face insecurities and we all have the ability to overcome these insecurities. I have selected 2 scholarly sources and selected quotes from the sources for you to use as evidential support (see below). I have also written a thesis statement (see below) and an introductory paragraph (only the introductory paragraph NOT the thesis is allowed to change if necessary). Thesis + introductory paragraph: Othello and Namesake both highlight the idea that no matter what ethnic background we (humans) come from, we are all similar in the sense that we all have insecurities, and we all possess the ability to overcome these insecurities. [unique_solution]The play Othello and the novel Namesake both highlight two characters from different ethnic backgrounds that have insecurities that they deal with throughout the plot. In the play Othello, Othello faced the insecurity of being jealous over his wife (Desdemona) when he found that she supposedly cheated on him. In addition, Othello battled the insecurity of being a man of color amongst white people. In the Namesake, the main character Gogol was insecure about how others perceived his name. Gogol was also insecure in any social situation where he had to share his culture with the American world because he was afraid that him and his culture was going to be judged by other ethnic groups. Both Othello’s and Gogol’s insecurities stem from a internal confidence issue that could’ve been resolved by them telling the truth and being authentic with not only themselves but also with other people . Radical Honesty by Brad Blanton The alternative kind of life—conservative, preserving beliefs, avoiding change, a kind of stagnation within the protected bounds of first learned concepts— is an equally futile way to live. The abysmal truth is that everything comes to nothing, no change matters. Whatever you don’t have is only important to you because you don’t have it. Something you want is very important to you until you get, and then its nothing after a while – page 426 If we are imperfect human beings who make mistakes, break our word, get angry, and are selfish, greedy, petty and unfair we must make our commitment as those imperfect beings.
