Applying health IT specialist skills
Strategic planning is an essential process for a company aiming at achieving set goals and objectives. This includes both short-term and long-term plans and covers various aspects of the business, such as production, sales, and employee development. Information technology (IT) is an essential part of the planning process. As a health IT specialist, I will apply the theories skills and knowledge associated with the course in the following ways;
This course has provided a deeper understanding of the various stages of the strategic IT planning process. This knowledge can help hospital management go through strategic processes and achieve its goals. One can introduce his or her skills in the plan development process to ensure the correct use of objectivity and resources. At the end of the planning process, guidance is provided to evaluate the organization’s results and compare them with the goals identified in the previous step (Cassidy, 2016).
As a medical IT specialist, I must monitor the operation of the IT system that manages the hospital data system. Medical records and databases are an essential part of hospital strategy (Roush, 2017). Health records are characterized as one of the critical data in a state that should be protected adequately. Thus, the skills acquired during the course will allow me to maximize the benefits of IT in the organization at the lowest cost. In this way, one can ensure that the IT system can best provide services to hospital organizations. I will understand the expectations of the client in this case, the patient who trusts the hospital with confidential information. The goodwill should reciprocate by providing excellent services to the customers, which will be facilitated by the knowhow.
My skills will help identify gaps in the organization’s strategic planning for IT. I will use the knowledge gained during the course to study the state of the hospital system, processes, and technical assets. I will also be responsible for the actions taken by the IT team. Compare my findings with the long-term goals of the hospital, identified at various stages, to identify gaps and recommend action. Through the IT expertise, I will be able to achieve the purposes of the organization as I will formulate risk assessment plans which will incorporate the mitigation strategies.
Understanding the importance of IT in strategic planning will in the sharing of crucial information with other UT experts. This will assist in improving the efficiency in the operations of the organizations. For example, explain hospital goals to sponsors or shareholders. You can also report on the progress of the IT system and any problems encountered. Skills can also help you decide if something goes wrong. Given the high level of professionalism, including the need to maintain confidentiality in a hospital setting, ethical decisions can be made to ensure compliance with established organizational standards (Roush, 2017).
In conclusion, the course has expounded on the importance of information technology in strategic planning. My primary role is to create a good foundation for starting a healthcare professional career, including managing the hospital’s IT system and processing medical records and data. The knowledge and skills gained will help my organization understand how to use technology to improve service delivery and increase efficiency strategically.
