 Aubreyon on Tedtalk presentation

The processes of decelerating the aging have increasingly received interest not only from scientists but every member of the public. It is essential to first understand what aging is and the implications it as in a person’s life. Aging starts when a person is about sixty years as they approach the late adulthood stage. Human aging involves the primary processes that are irreversible genetic programming and the secondary aging caused by sicknesses and other individual health habits that are preventable. Most scientists and researchers believe that the aging process has economic effects. Governments spend a lot of money to take care of the elderly population that is more vulnerable to chronic illnesses.

According to Aubrey, in his Tedtalk presentation, aging is an expensive social problem, and there is a need to address the process. The author believes that rejuvenation biotechnology offers the best solution in the treatment and prevention of aging-related sicknesses (Aubrey, 2014). Aubrey also observes that there has not been a substantial effort in addressing age-related diseases. The medicine world has concentrated so much on infectious diseases and has developed vaccination, antibiotic drugs, and sanitation practices that have reduced the cases of infectious diseases. But there is no substantial effort in the prevention and treatment of age-related diseases. The issue of managing the aging-related issues is controversial that requires a proper understanding and analysis, as explained by many theorists and thinkers. It is not correct to look at the aging process from an economic perspective. Aging is a biological process that consists of psychological, physical, and emotional stages in a person’s lifetime. Aging is as chronologic as the other stages of life and requires quality healthcare to manage the health needs of the aging population.

The development in anti-aging medicine seeks to slow the process and reduce the vulnerability of late adulthood to chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart diseases, and cancer. However, the population has different views concerning the benefits of the anti-aging process, and some people believe that it is not necessary. So it is crucial to analyze the advantages of anti-aging medicine as well as the limitations. Many people view late adulthood as the stage of reduced energy due to deteriorations in the body and often feel demoralized by the thought that they have to go through the process. The advantage that anti-aging products have on the individuals is that it slows down the process and regenerates their youthful energy and physical appearances. People always try to keep themselves as young as possible by following expert pieces of advice on exercising and maintaining a healthy diet. But it is still not a sustainable way of controlling aging. Aging management products supplements hormonal production that supports the ability of the body to continuously produce growth hormones that facilitates the repairing of cells in the body, even in late adulthood. The human body naturally can get rid of the dead cells that are prone to illnesses and infections, and so the anti-aging products enable the prevention of age-related diseases. Using hormonal supplements decelerates the aging process and thereby reduces the prevalence of aging-related diseases. Some anti-aging products compress the growth of infectious cells but do not interfere with the aging process, which leads to the improvement of the health of elderly persons. Destroying the infectious cells also lowers the vulnerability to cases of disability and a variety of illnesses reported in late adulthood.

Additionally, there is also a reduction in the expenditure on the treatment of age-related diseases that commonly degenerate with advancements in a person’s age. The anti-aging medicine is costly and only accessible to a small group of the aging population. In as much as the technology aims at reducing the prevalence of age-related illnesses, it is necessary to consider costs. The affordable price will lead to the increased access of anti-aging products that will lead to healthier and happier late adulthood stage.

Late adulthood regarded as a crucial stage embraced in most cultures, and therefore taking care of the elderly is viewed as a rewarding requirement. The anti-aging medicine should always consider the ethical concerns in applying and advocating for the process of slowing down the aging process. Decelerating the aging process is one way of prolonging human life expectancy for as long as it can go and is the same as saving a life. So scientists need to commit themselves in postponing life just as it is a requirement in the medical practice. Some people believe that it is not necessary to focus resources on the postponement of life. Since the people in late adulthood nave already lived well enough as compared to the younger population. The death of a person due to age-related diseases is not as tragic as compared to when a child dies. So many people feel that there is no need to focus much scientific research and resources on slowing down the process of aging (Joralemon, 2017).

Other ethical issues on anti-aging include conversations on the sustainability of reproduction. Whether everyone will have the opportunity to access the products that will keep them younger for as long as it works, people feel that the world is a miserable place already. Based on issues such as the cost of living, and there is no need for extending this life as it will mean more misery. Another ethical implication of anti-aging medicine is the effects it will have on the public views about other social issues, including suicide and the medical practice of induced euthanasia.

Sustainability of the research and development in decelerated aging requires a lot of resources that make achieving the process very costly for societies that wish to have a population that is forever young (Kondoh et al., 2016). Slowing the aging process will ensure that people live disease-free lives and maintain their physical energy and activities. Most anti-aging solutions do not provide a permanent cure for the illnesses caused by aging. It is because their usage is like an addiction that requires the users to depend on the medications to continue achieving the results continuously. The medicines are always costly, which makes people seek debt funding to sustain the procedures.

Various aging theories have made attempts at explaining the complexities of the aging process, including the cellular aging and the metabolic waste theory. The cellular aging theory maintains that aging is caused by the inability of some organ cells to reproduce, repair, and replace themselves in the human body. The metabolic waste theory argues that aging is a result of the accumulation of the wastes of cellular metabolism that accumulate over time. The advancements in anti-aging medicine will not significantly affect human aging because the process involves changes that take place both internally and in the external environment.
