Post 1 The New York City Draft Riots” & the Civil War Hundred of Americans were killed to make the country a slavery-free America. African Americans were released from their slavery bondage after the Civil war, and the New York City Draft made African Americans exercise their human rights amid White Americans. Also, racism against African Americans came to an end due to the two war events. After the two wars, African Americans were allowed to join the military as well as other civil jobs in the country (History.com, 2009). Post 2 Southern America’s racial attitudes during the War era forced the abolition of slavery in the Northern states. The City Draft Riots introduces learners to the Northern America views and fears of losing their job opportunities to the freed slaves in Northern America. The two events provide class-based opinions during the war period, which makes the person in power to hold on to a leadership position more tenuous than commonly thought. The New York Draft Riots and Civil War were a race riot; many immigrants, especially whites, were uncomfortable…

PERT technique This week’s learning is on the topic project scope, project time, and project cost management. During this week, I gained knowledge of the PERT technique. The PERT technique is known as the program evaluation and review technique. I understood the significance of this technique, which helps in the project tracking at different time intervals and the probability of the completion of the project. I also learned about the resource optimization concept this week. This technique is useful to adjust the project implementation, and project completion dates as per the resource availability. This technique assumes that the project has limited resource availability. The resources can be anything from equipment, people, materials, facilities, etc. All these resources should be considered while planning. To estimate the resources, five estimation techniques are studied during this week. They are a parametric estimation, Analogous estimation, three-point estimation, expert judgment, historical data. These estimations were explained on resource-constrained projects and time-constrained projects. The techniques of resource levelling and its importance when the time of the project cannot be prolonged is understood. The technique of Heuristics…

Healthy and unhealthy foods Q.1 My favorite unhealthy foods include French fries, cookies and cakes, pizzas, and soda. Most of these are harmful because they contain a very high content of sugar or fats. To make these foods healthy, one should try and reduce the fat content in them and also reduce the amounts of sugar used to prepare the meals. Eating them on a few occasions would also help. One can also replace them with healthy foods like milk instead of soda, arrowroots instead of cakes and also choose foods with wholesome ingredients. Q.2 Some of the food supplements that I consume include foods fortified with supplements like calcium of vitamin B12. These supplements help to cover for the deficit that might be there in the foods that I eat. Eating much healthier food rich in nutrients can help reduce the need for using dietary supplements. This is because the nutrients that the body needs are available in the food we eat. However, the foods and the nutrients are not always readily available hence the need for supplements. Q.3…

Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner My goal in learning is to become a competent Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) with an intension of supporting and assessing individuals with mental health problems in the community including; depression and anxiety disorders hence enhancing their recovery. It is crucial and fulfilling knowing that I will be able to make a difference in society. However, I have selected a scholarly article that concentrates on different treatment methods fo enhance prevention and fight for mental health problems. It was very frustrating and annoying when I started the search for a full-text scholarly article. Walden Writing Center readdressed me to UIC Research Guides, which led me to various reports in MEDLINE via PubMed@UIC and EMBASE: Excerpta Medica Database. All the efforts were yielding no results since they required signing in, which was a bit difficult since, in the signing in process, they needed payment methods to continue. This would be very expensive, so I opted for other alternatives. I went back to Waden Library for more options, and this time it was successful. Searching was made more accessible because…

The National Institute of Nursing Research? In his article “Against School,” by former public-school teacher and educational consultant John Taylor Gatto, the author analyses the origin of compulsory mass schooling in the United States. The article challenges parents and educators to carefully reconsider the mission of public education and evaluate whether it can, in fact, be successful in developing bright minds capable of problem-solving. Ultimately, he concludes, public education is failing. After reading the John Gatto article, I agree that public education is hindering the development of creative and independent thinkers. State-funded schools are not inspiring students due to the rigid curriculum, standardized testing, A-F grading system, and poor classroom discipline. The rigid structure of our current educational curriculum does not allow for creativity in teaching or creative students. For starters, the curriculum is structured to mold students into the so-called good citizens. As a result, students are made to pursue common goals, which hinders their freedom of establishing and exploring their own competencies. Similarly, since teachers are helping students to attain the same common goals, they are also denied…

Dance as a form Dance is a form of art purposefully made through recreating chosen sequences of human motions possible to be imbued with aesthetic value and symbolism that are recognized by both observers and performers from a particular culture.  Since the dawn of human civilization, dance is still connected to human beings. To bring back the history of dances that show a fascinating part of human culture, all kinds of roots in ancient civilization to these modern times, a proper survey has to be done.  As part of my assigned task that was purposely aimed to bring the history of dances back, I was able to find Mr. Mario, a Native American man who is in his 80s. Throughout our conversation, I was much interested to know more about the dances of their times. As part of the interview, there are several questions that I had already developed in my questionnaire to guide and help me focus on the topic. With the aid of a sound recorder, I asked Mario several questions, and he provided feedback, as shown below.  …
