Understanding the concept of Oppression Many Scholars in their work have various explanations of the philosophy of Oppression. A comparative analysis and comparisons of different arguments on this topic seem to agree. Iris Marion Young is one of the philosophers who have worked on this Philosophy. Does Iris Marion Young’s offer an adequate account of Oppression? Why? Why not? After reading through Marion’s work on Oppression by “Iris Youngs Five Faces of Oppression Applied to Nursing.” ,(Dubrosky and Rebekah), I admit that Young has made tremendous efforts to explain the concept of Oppression adequately. However, I do not agree that she has sufficiently given an account of Oppression. Young’s account of Oppression does not convince me to agree with her arguments and explanation on this topic. I do not imply that her discussions are not exciting or convincing. But, it is because there are few areas that I noticed she might have failed to explain adequately to bring home the meaning of Oppression. According to Heldke and OConnor, Oppression traditionally implies “the act to exercise tyranny by a dominant or…

BOSTON MASSACRE Background Boston massacre is also referred to as the incident of king street, which occurred on 5th March 1770. It was a confrontation between colonialist and the British soldiers in which it resulted in the death of five people. Manufactured goods from Britain were brought to the capital of Massachusetts, which was Boston. The town later became a center of resistance as the British had imposed taxes on goods that were shipped from Britain to the capital. The colonialists opposed the rule as it was contrary to the original charter, which was against the power given to the British over the protectorates. The house of Representatives in Massachusetts began a movement to oppose the rule. They wrote to King George III, asking him to denounce the government. The representatives launched a campaign to oppose this legislation and called for other colonialists to join the movement. The then governor, Francis Bernard, declined the letter, and they were ordered to rescind the message which the house declined. As the movement grew, and people started boycotting the use of the products,…

Legal evaluation Assignment The fact that the law is a double-edged sword does not mitigate or provide for lenient actions to be taken in case of acts of omission or commission committed by relatives. The only remedying factor, in this case, is to either apply alternative dispute resolution mechanisms (ADRM) or result in due process of the law. Nevertheless, if it leads to a court process, lodging of a lawsuit in a civil court would apply, where civil litigation would be conducted to prove the innocence of the mother. I have decided to sue my mother for the injuries caused. The decision of whether to sue or not to sue my mother is dependent on certain variant factors. By dint that she has refused to settle my hospital dues of 4000 dollars, even after been the main perpetrator of the accident creates in me emotional instability. The fact that I’m unable to raise the hospital fees leaves me no choice but to request the same from the court of law. However, if we would settle the dispute through an alternative…

Response to Student Posts Student Shawn I agree with the student’s claim that a reference group affects the perception of self. The student identifies relevant comparison factors that are race and social status. Shawn explains with great articulation of instances where he did not feel “white” or “black” enough while in college. However, the student does not identify these instances and what exactly made him think he was segregated. For example, the student could have mentioned discriminatory acts in the college, such as racial slurs or even bullying acts. Mainly, this would have created a better picture of how reference groups affect self-perception, mainly due to race. Shawn identifies the factors that helped him find a reference group that he could associate with that is similar life experiences and the need to fit in. Notably, stating examples of these experiences would have better enhanced the understanding of the reader. Shawn exhibits weakness in grammar and proper sentence structure. It is, therefore, essential that you check on grammar before submitting your work. Student Terry Terry identifies reference groups that positively impacted…

I Want a Wife review             Judy Brady wrote a poetic essay, “I want a wife” in 1971, during a period that was witnessing a strong feminist movement. The feminist debate had caused a heated discussion concerning the role of women in the home. Women had been the recipients of the negative impacts of patriarchal dominion and Brady had to stand out and play a role as a female author to represent the voice of the woman. The main aim of the author was to express her feeling about the negligence that women had been going through in their fight for equal rights as men. Brady focuses on the traditional roles of the woman in a home set up and seems to be addressing a female audience. Brady is concerned about the unfairness that exists within the marriage structure with the women coming out as the victims on many occasions. The significance of such a topic for a literary work stands out even in the present world since the issue of the fight for gender equality is getting vocal day-in-day-out.…

People’s Rights The rights of the people can be categorized in multiple ways. A considerable number of them fall in more than one category; however, it depends on the law governing the nation and, at times, the perception of individuals. The widely employed categories of these rights are civil rights, natural rights, and human rights. The write-up will, therefore, review a newspaper article that revolves around one of the people’s rights, and subsequently highlight whether the discussed right can act as a presentation topic in a history class. Question 1 Johnson, Kirk. “Court Defines Tenant Right as ‘Property’.” The New York Times, 8 Mar. 1987, p. 7. Question 2 The article by Johnson highlights the commencement of legal law in the 1980s, whereby prosecutors believed that an apartment leased by a tenant, although intangible, it is his property. It was seconded by the courts and the district attorneys, with their argument being, leasing transfers the exclusive and sole rights of the premise from the landlord to the tenant, and the interest constitutes a property whether transferred or not. According to…

Truth Telling

Truth Telling Although honesty is the best policy, people get tempted to lie often. Lying is not justified when done under the intention of manipulating others to achieve personal gain. It is the obligation of doctors, to tell the truth to their patients, but often, a particular situation makes it hard for them to do so. Most times, doctors are left at crossroads as decide whether to fulfill their moral duty by telling the truth or to preserve the health of the patient who might not be ready to hear the facts at that particular time. In such situations, doctors may find themselves giving a partial truth, which is equivalent to a lie.  In the past, doctors always lied to avoid stressing the patient, but today, things have changed as telling the truth has become more meaningful to the patients. The patients can use this information to plan for their care and relieve their past anxiety. Doctors should tell the truth to their patients to help them cope with the situation, but for patients who may not be able to…
