Research Paper John Locke John Locke was an English philosopher and physician regarded as one of the most influential of Enlightenment thinkers and known as the “Father of Classical Liberalism.” Considered one of the first of the British empiricists, following the tradition of Sir Francis Bacon, he is equally important to social contract theory. His work greatly affected the development of epistemology and political philosophy. His writings influenced Voltaire and Rousseau, many Scottish Enlightenment thinkers, as well as the American revolutionaries. His contributions to classical republicanism and liberal theory are reflected in the United States. Locke’s major political analysis in the Second Treatise of Government argues for individual natural rights, limited government, separation of powers, and the right of people to overthrow a failed leader. However, out of the many great thoughts in different themes of Locke, two critical ideas dominated that laid open to him to perceive philosophy as the subject to life. Furthermore, some of his two central notions had stolen the attention whenever his political and philosophical work was pointed out. While taking into consideration some of…
Interstate commerce Interstate commerce is the process of purchasing and selling, and the movement of people across different states. The government regulates interstate commerce. Various channels are used in this process, for example, roads, air, and waterways. The government regulates interstate commerce and hence the circuits involved. The “Congress could keep the channels of interstate commerce (like highways) free from injurious or immoral uses” (Robert and Grant, 2001). By regulating the channels, the law protects the items entering or leaving a state. Instrumentalities involved in interstate commerce include roads, planes, and watercraft. The law regulates the instrumentalities in the sense that congress could protect them in the commerce process. “The doctrine developed in McCulloch v. Maryland, that there is the total failure of power in the states to tax the operations of a federal instrumentality was brought over and declared to be entirely applicable to state taxation of foreign and interstate commerce” (Dowling, 1940). The law also regulates and protects persons involved and goods in interstate commerce, ensuring both their safety and that of the states involved. Moreover, protection is…
analysis of the interview on my friend’s family who came from South Korea and how they assimilated into the new cultures The transition from one culture to another is often a difficult experience for most individuals, but it is a very interesting topic, especially from oral history analysts. I also found the experience interesting and conducted an interview on my friend’s family who came from South Korea and found some interesting information. This paper discusses the analysis of the interview and how they assimilated into the new cultures. From the interview, I noted a few interesting facts about South Korea and the culture of its people. The perspectives of Andrew Carnegie, John Morrison and Henry George on the impact of industrialization The three men agree that industrialization brought about civilization. According to Carnegie, human life has been transformed. The example given is that of a millionaire in his palace and laborers in their cottages in comparison to former days where there was no significant difference in terms of dwelling, dressing, or food. Furthermore, the manufacture of goods moved from domestic production to mass production. Formerly production was in terms of households where masters would work side by side with their apprentices. They would work and live in the same conditions; thus, aspects of social equality and political equality were substantial. However, since the manufacture of articles was in terms of households or low quantities, the commodities were acquired at significantly high prices. As a result of industrialization, production of commodities was improved; hence quality products would be acquired at considerably low prices. According to Morrison, industrialization brought pain among the machinists. However, he does agree that there are benefits to this civilization. The industrialization brought about…
The trafficking of human body parts The trafficking of human body parts, also known as the organ trade in the black markets, is the illegal trade of human organs for transplantation. This business has risen to become a very lucrative business amassing wealth for the traffickers. The increase in demand for body organs that can sustain the lives of the patients is the primary reason for the boom in this business out of the set medical systems as per the World Health Organization (WHO). For instance, as of the end of January 2020, there were more than 112,000 recipients in the urgent need for organ transplants in the United States. (citehsb). The average wait periods for the candidates who require liver and heart transplants in America is approximated to about 148 days while for a class A1 patient with heart disease is about 73 days. Hence, time is a critical factor in this business, hence the rise and gradual increase in the profits made in the market. Although stringent and stern measures have been taken by the governmental authorities and…
Leadership and Motivation of workers Introduction Leadership is the critical element of growth and development of an organization. To foster good leadership leaders should portray their management skills to run all the activities of the firm in harmony. Directing the efforts of the team of employees into the achievement of the organization’s goal can lead to development and growth of the business (Brownson, 2017). Bringing together all workers and stimulating them to work in unison and bring down all their cultural, political or religious backgrounds. The following are some of how leaders can motivate the workers in an organization. Abstract Every individual has their strengths and weaknesses regarding achieving the organizational objective and their tasks. Face-ism Face-ism is where a proportion of the overall image as depicted in the media, for example, in magazine covers, is devoted to the face. According to studies, media portrayals of women tend to feature less of their face relative to the faces of men. Typical photographs of men feature two-thirds of his face, while for women, it features less than half of their face. This bias is further amplified for women of minority races who have the lowest face-ism in media portrayals. Face-ism is exemplified in politics where female politicians such as Hillary Clinton, whose time covers features images of her the lower part of her leg and a silhouette of her. Also, the former first lady was subjected to face-sim in her images on the Newsweek cover that also featured less of her face. In comparison, Bill Clinton, Obama, and President Trump images had more of their faces. Face-ism is crucial because it has a significant psychological influence on the audience of the media. Studies show that people tend to associate a person’s “individuality, personality, and intelligence with…
Tannen’s analysis of the communication between males and females From my experience, I find Tannen’s analysis of the communication between males and females somewhat accurate. The author explains that the socialization process of girls and boys is what plays a significant role in the way they communicate. As a child, I realized that the conversation between girls was more about telling each other secrets and expressing emotions. Girls would ask each other more questions than boys. Boys, on the other hand, were often talking about doing things. In my class, for instance, girls were more focused on comparing their clothes and hairstyles, while the boys would talk about football and races. I think it is essential to study the communication patterns of males and females as it helps to understand how gender roles affect the communication process. According to Hancock and Rubin (47), people’s communication styles are closely related to their psychological differences as well as the gender constriction in a society. For instance, the position of men and women in society affects how they communicate and relate to each…
