Family Violence
Social welfare policy refers to the acts, rules and law that help improve the lives of people in the community. Family violence is when someone who has a personal relationship uses abusive behaviours to harm you, control and make you afraid. Forms of family violence include emotional and psychological abuse, social abuse, financial abuse, threats to injure or kill, controlling your spiritual or cultural choices and blaming you for not solving community and family issues(Statyen,2018). I choose this kind of problem because I have experienced it through my neighbour. She was exposed by this violence directly; his father physically injured her mother. During that time she was used as a shield and got injured.
This violence affects society because those who come to witness the violence are members of the community, co-workers, service providers and all are members of society(Statyen,2018). They are affected mentally, physically and spiritual well-being. More than a third Americans have experienced family violence, according to the report by The Center for Diseases and Prevention, it shows that thirteen million people per year experience rape, or abuse by an intimate partner. The violence affects both men and women, but women are the victim in 60% of cases according to the Department of justice. In these cases, children are affected mostly than parents.
Legal precedent. Postmus and Ortega highlight the particular lawsuit, which alleged the New York city’s child protection agency was taking away a child from house family violence occurred and charge the parent with neglect(Ards,2017). Policies applied according to the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorizations, creation of a legal assistance program for a victim of family violence and sexual abuse. Examples of such policies in us are Domestic violence unit and Domestic violence Protocol.
In conclusion, I would advise that domestic violence victim to mobilized and report such cases, talking to the victim and help the victim to seek justice. In case I come upon such issue I would also make contacts with a family and domestic violence support services
