Free will and intentional action

            Do we always own the power to do whatever we want, and are we privileged enough to satisfy our desires through our actions? Free will is the state of someone being able to choose between different choices of action and being able to come up with one that is believed to be suitable. Intentional action whereas is being able to accomplish the desired goal by undertaking a particular course of action and considering that it’s going to bring the satisfaction. We can possess the power to choose our actions and conduct them in whichever way we want, but the power serves under specific controls that bring dilemmas and confusion with it. Controllers of free will are things like responsibility, praises, guilt, advice, prohibition, and sin among others.\       In my opinion, I don’t think we entirely have the power to choose what we want to do and when, how or where we want to do it. If something is getting controlled by something, it can no longer remain to be free and directly under our control. Determinism controls our actions. The circumstances that we are in controls how we act. For instance, if we are placed in a situation where we act as parents, and we have to act at the benefit of our children, we will think about our responsibilities that we have to take care of our kids and the guilt that may follow us if we let them down.

Pieces of advice can influence the ability to weigh down the action options we receive from other people and how prohibited the action we take can turn out to be. If we have several options to look on, we may opt to go to our friends or any other people that may help us to make up an informed decision, and this means what other people say may affect our free will abilities.

For example, if I have three career option, and I need to end on one side of the three choices that I have but am facing a dilemma, and I can’t seem to decide what to choose talking to a friend, or someone who knows me well and listening what they have to say will make me rethink based on what they said. However, my decision will be arrived at not only by my personal decision but as an influenced course. Therefore we can agree that what we will do is not what we always end up doing.

Turning to intentional actions, we have the responsibility of asking ourselves how many times we have been able to attain our set objectives through our actions. Human actions are controlled by desires and outcome goals even from a young age. A child at 3 is capable of knowing that if he/she wanted a favor from the parent, they have to be on their best behavior and form a friendly ground to priory convince the parent to agree to what they want. In short what am saying is that just like several factors control our free will, there are influential factors that are in line while in the intention forming process.

Firstly, people can have an attitude towards performing a specific behavior, and this case intention may not be strong enough to beat down the attitude (Ekstrom, 2018). . If someone wants to do something to attain something that will benefit them, they have to be motivated enough to undergo an action to achieve the goal they desire to. So people intention can be controlled by their willingness to perform a specific action.

In another point, we can all agree that society is the most significant moral judger that surrounds us and no matter how loud we say that we aren’t bothered say to about us we can all agree there is always a deep lie in that statement, right (Dennett, 2015). . Okay well, I for one I am disturbed by what people have to say about me, and that has made me change the intentions of my action multiple times. So in my trust, social norms are another factor that has enormous control over people’s action. If I would like to do something, first I have to measure my desires with what the society has said about it to know whether it’s right or not according to the society.

In conclusion, we can say that our behaviors or actions and intentions are not controlled entirely by us and what we have inner us, but also we have apparent limitations that can drag us down changing our actions. Therefore we do not own any free will to our action or the power to perform things to fulfill our desires sometimes we give the power and the decision to other people and let them decide for us what we have to do.
