Question one

The family in the film is comic from the way they react to the situation, whether during hard times or happy moments. Such an aspect has seen the family keeps moving on as they find a better life. Particularly I connect with the young Olive, who takes the initiative to bring all the family members together. The young lady still finds value in her grandpa even after being kick out of the family for his habit of using drugs.

Question two

In the little Miss Sunshine, the value of the family is depicted as staying together in harmony to express care to each. Hoover’s family members are always seen together throughout the film, where they make sacrifices to help each other to attain their goals no matter what happened. For instance, Frank, Dwayne, and Richard sacrifice their needs to go with Sheryl to the little miss sunshine pageant. This was an indication of oneness that propelled through the family.

Question three

Sheryl approach of creating happiness is one of the best ways that can be utilized by families to create unity. From her sacrifice, love is manifested in the whole family as each member can testify the good that comes from her. Besides, the director of the film was aiming at showing the audience that a family cannot function properly without helping and supporting each. It can be observed that it only takes love and unit for a family to work.

Question four

In the film, different family members give different perceptions towards success, Richard, for instance, believes he will succeed once he wins the program and deal book is signed. On the other hand, Son Dwayne believes success is to be a fighter pilot. These family members and others in the firm understanding that they can only attain success by excelling in their specific areas of interest despite the challenges that might face. This is a true reflection of a western society where parents give their children space to choose what they would like to specialize in at older age.

The death of Grandpa affected the young girl Olive more than it did to any other family member. Olive looked to her grandpa for support and helped for her to participate in the pageant. The grandpa would always want Olive to compete despite influencing her negatively with his drug use that all members of the family did not like. His death impacts her performances as she tried her best to make her family members smile for the sake of her late grandpa.

Question six

The contest came as a surprise following its fantastic performance more so from Olive, who has been trained and guided by her late grandpa. I think the beauty manifested in children’s pageants is a reflection of what the drug addict grandpa could do if the family members had given him a chance. It reveals that the grandpa possessed something unique for the family despite his weakness. This is an indication that parents should expect the best from their children whenever they are couched by the elderly.

Question seven

VW bus helps the family to discover the need for supporting each other besides bringing them together as they go for a trip. Once the bus is stuck, the family is forced to display some unity to be able to push it for them to continue with the journey. The stuck of the bus can be said to have been used metaphorically to demonstrate what the family is likely to go through if it did not involve all of its members in whatever activity they engaged. Such a foreshadow leads to the transformation of the family members, where they learn how to live together to assist one another as each pursues different goals. Peace is evidenced in the family as olive tries to acknowledge her grandpa and changes everyone’s attitude about the old man as she performs her best in the competition.

Question eight

Upon reflection of the film, as a student of the family, it becomes clear in mind that we, as children we need guidance and support from our older parents for us to excel in our endeavors. Besides, it can be observed that we need to offer support to our family members just the same way they do us.
