My relationship with my economics textbook
My relationship with my economics textbook was a bit mundane until I came across the touches Adam Smith and Amartya Sen had made to it…Economics has molded me into a new version of myself, someone who desires to perceive a change as the perception of time was for Einstein. Math and I always had a love-hate relationship finding the ‘x’ was often challenging unless they were tied to some real-world concrete applications as present in economics… I believe if I go probing internationally, I will find Mathematics.
For me, Economics and International Politics are like an equation that needs balancing on both sides. An equation which if distorted causes nations to fall. My connection with Economics developed when my teacher told me how it revolves around the world and us. When she was teaching me the HDI( Human Development Index ), my mind started relating it to the problems in Syria, Israel, and Palestine trying to figure out solutions.
My mind went into deep thought and those thoughts came out as actions. As a Pre-National level shooter and a jockey I always wanted to bring about a change, do something great, something I could be remembered for . and so I did, I started to volunteer at a non-profit organization that employed blind carpet weavers. I was in charge of handling the output and I realized that the organization’s functioning was similar to that of an economy, its growth could be modeled by its gross production and so can an economy’s!
A hunger for knowledge both about an economy and its relations with others led me to attend several Model United Nation Conferences, where I constantly won best delegate of the committee. It helped me meet like-minded people and share differences of opinions.
At the beginning of my 12th grade, I did an internship at a Fund Manager’s office, to understand how politics and international policies affected the stock prices in a country. The manager and I had vivid conversations about my deep interest in International Politics. Often, the hot topic of our discussions was the Brexit. It was a huge economic decision that not just affected the United Kingdom but also the remaining 27 countries in the Union. The realization that a tiny change in international policy could have a huge impact on so many economies was mind baffling. I concluded how intertwined Economics and International Politics were . They are the holy duo that decide the faith of 7.4 billion people living on this planet.
My father is a civil servant and so was my grandfather hence there were always discussions related to economic and political situations in our country going on in our house. I would always be eager to be a part of those, which got me more and more involved and lured me to ultimately decide to pursue an undergraduate degree in those subjects.
I belevie my analysing potential has always been ascending from my 8th grade since my 8th grade as I started to watch CNBC and bussiness insider and began to analyze the changes taking place in concerned economies and tried to figure out solutions and waited for results to come.The culmination of all the experiences I had since my 8th grade building upon one another led me to my passion for Economics and international politics which I wish to pursue at your esteeemd university.
