Preservation of Wilderness Areas

Wilderness areas are known for having a large number of animal species, including the endangered. Many wildlife species call these areas home. Similarly, a considerable number of people often travel to wilderness areas, especially during the summer months for leisure activities. For them, wilderness areas are a natural retreat from the pressures of daily life. The preservation of wilderness areas depends on the willingness of the public to avoid such places. The public has an obligation to preserve wilderness areas to protect wildlife species.

During leisure times, many people flood to wilderness areas intending to enjoy a different surrounding away from the buzzing city life. These activities often occur during the warm summer months, where millions of people travel to wilderness areas and wildlife hotspots across the country to retreat from the stress of daily life. However, many people do not know the impact of their retreats in wilderness areas. A large number of people traveling to wilderness areas for excursion activities undermine the freedom of the animals and disturbs their breeding spots. Therefore, informing the public about the negative impacts of their excursion activities in wilderness areas helps them make rational decisions in choosing places for leisure.

Essentially, many people countrywide have no idea how their leisure activities in wilderness areas contribute to its degeneration. Waste materials disposed into these areas negatively affect the wilderness environment and also pose a danger to the wildlife species in those areas. If people preserve wilderness areas, then these areas will provide essential habitats for wildlife and, thus, prevent the extinction of endangered species. Thus, given that the public becomes responsible for choosing places for their excursions, then wilderness areas will no doubt be preserved and essential habitats for wildlife established.

It could be argued that people have no role in accelerating the degeneration of wilderness areas and that the argument above mistakenly advocates for the preservation of wilderness areas while denying them perfect public spots for their leisure activities. Many people argue that this suggestion is absurd since most people spend little time in those areas. Moreover, it doesn’t necessarily imply that any excursion activity in wilderness areas diminishes wildlife habitats. Wild animals have vast amounts of space in wilderness areas, and thus, they can easily look for other suitable spots if tourists encroach others. Hence, the public is devoid of blame.

Although what has been argued above might seem appealing, the original assumption is indeed sensible. The opposing argument suggests that the general public has an obligation to protect wilderness areas to protect wildlife species. The opposing argument might have stood if it was necessary for the original assumption. Nevertheless, the initial assumption need only state that the public has an obligation to preserve wilderness areas to provide essential habitat for wildlife. Since most people argue that their activities have little impact on the wilderness areas and that wildlife can look for other habitats when encroached, there is a possibility that their activities endanger wilderness areas and could lead to a possible loss of wildlife habitats.

In summary, a willing and responsible public is essential in the preservation of wilderness areas. Still, most people assume that their activities have little impact on the destruction of wilderness areas and animal habitats. When people become irresponsible and unwilling to preserve wilderness areas, then their dereliction will be accelerated. This undermines the essential habitats for various wildlife species that these areas provide. Similarly, the loss of habitats can quickly accelerate the extinction of wildlife species in wilderness areas. The public has an obligation to preserve wilderness areas to protect wildlife.
