I have known Venika for almost 3years as an associate professor and mentor in VIT University, Vellore and taught her the subjects ‘Microprocessor and Interfacing’ and ‘Embedded System Design’ in her 4th and 7th Semesters respectively.
I would describe Venika as an enthusiastic, curious and industrious student with insatiable desire to excel in her education field. Under my tutelage, she developed a 3D Mapping System to generate 3D images of rooms and indoor locations using Arduino fitted with an ultrasonic sensor. The sensor would collect the data from the room, and then send the data to a computer over wifi. This data was then being analyzed and plotted using python. For her Embedded System Design course, she used her data analytics and microprocessor knowledge and came up with a device called ‘Smart Pill Dispenser’ using Raspberry Pi. This device could remind an older person to take their daily dose of medicine by sending an SMS on their phone, and when the person would place their hand in front of the device, it would dispense that medicine. For both the projects, she strengthened her fundamentals and came up with incredible ideas, the latter being far-fetched that could really be useful for people with diseases like Alzheimer’s. I was really moved by the level of idea and implementation plan that she put forward for the projects. She portrayed proficiency in completing the assigned project with minimum guidelines that expressed her as an intelligently independent person.
Venika is creative and innovative and takes initiatives to research upon the subject and then branches out on various methodologies to develop interesting solutions to the complex problems. She is self-inspired with meticulous insights and always tries to do things differently thinking out of the box. Her unique willingness to learn and understand the concepts and taking feedback with positive outlook makes her stand out, and that is why when she approached me to seek guidance throughout her internship at Deloitte in her final semester, I consented gladly. I have evaluated her performance continuously, and she has always outdone herself every time. Beyond her technical know-how, she has shown her professionalism and deployed her communication, interpersonal and presented a good sense of self-awareness while gaining experience in real-world situations. This has been obvious by her rapidly progressive improvement in the significant aspects of the discipline while pursuing her internship.
