The competition between big and small businesses has forever been one of the most severe issues in the business realm. The small businesses require a firm foundation and a reliable customer backup in order to compete and survive in the race against the big giants. Josh Novak’s Glow-Foods model was a success, and it was recognized by the International Food Group. The organization was impressed by the man’s IT strategy at Glow-Foods and offered Josh a job at IFG’s IT department. He was offered to work with a team at IFG to aid them with their demographics. The opportunity excited Josh, but he was also hesitant at the same time as he was aware that the IFG would not be similar to anything in Glow-Foods, his small business.

The transition to IFG appeared awkward for Josh and Tonya also warned him about the problems that he may run into with his own team at IFG. The main issue was recognized to be the bumping heads of the new-aged members in his team and the seasoned personnel from the IFG side. Rick Visser, IFG’s chief tech officer, warned his team that social media site access was possible only if his group preapproved the activity (McKeen & Smith, 2015). To add on to this, Ben Nokony turned things more difficult for the young team when he argued that they could not talk with the product team directly but needs to go through him. The corporate world transition further came in with more problems as a request was issued by the IT finance officer for the team in relation to the next fiscal year’s budget plan.

The concerns of the IT office were valid. However, Josh’s team had not been familiar with this way. They required access to social media sites for their researches and communication and were habituated to do so freely. Rick, on the other hand, was habituated to his subordinates, asking for permission for site access. The new team found it annoying. Josh’s team wanted to bounce off a few ideas for the product team and went directly to them. This offended Ben Nokony, and his aggression disturbed Josh’s team. Ben considered it to be a formal meet where he must have been present. He was too aggressive to remind the protocols of IFG that must be followed. Their task of costs and benefits also gave them a hard time as being aware of the budget plan was not possible unless they were aware of their capabilities. It was thus difficult for the team to come up with a budget except that they could prepare a budget based on approximation of costs and benefits. The team could have arranged a meet with the IT finance officer to explain the proposed idea’s possible work so that she will not disturb the team during the process.

Winning the support for the team

The entire IT office came forward to pick apart the presentation when the team was ready for the final presentation. Every single loop present in the three-point approach has been exploited. Sheema, the IT finance officer, was worried in terms of the initiatives of the business value. Ben, on the other hand, demanded a genuine commitment from the team on the benefits. The lousy customer reviews were the main concerns of John, while cloud security was Rick’s prime concern (McKeen & Smith, 2015). All of the concerns were valid from the corporate point of view, and Josh needed to address the concerns to gain their support. The primary step is to be slow in rolling out his idea.

To bring success, the best step for Josh would be to create an interactive website in a miniature version along with the cloud. He, as a leader of his team, can continuously keep the IT office members updated about the signs of progress that his project is making at each step. Some of the essential steps that the team can take to gain in support in their favor include:

  • Outlining the potential risks of security due to the project
  • Estimating an approximate budget and cost for the fiscal year
  • Pointing out the benefits that are associated with the project

Once the tasks are done, Josh can get in touch with John and the IT office and can even make a trial of the project on a selected control group from the range of IFG consumers. This approach will not only enable him to keep his survey covered among the different communities but also allow him to keep his tests running for his work. As he continues to roll out his plan on a miniature scale slowly, the members from the IT department can get acquainted with it more. As they get to know more about its safety and affordability, they may get pleased with it.
