Statement of Purpose of Nikita Biradar

“If football has taught me anything it is that you can overcome anything, and only if, you love something enough” this beautiful quote by Lionel Messi, is what I follow as a true footballer and a diehard Football fan.

Since my school days I have always been among the top few players be it Basketball Football or relay. This very interest towards sports and academics, saw me into Pratibha College of Commerce & Computer Studies, affiliated to Pune University. It was at this graduate college during my first year of playing, the coach saw a striking potential in me and encouraged me to take up Football seriously. From there my life took a great turn where I started developing love for the game and unknowingly Football became my oxygen.

My team was the first girls’ team that had represented Pratibha College of Commerce for the Inter District competition (2014-2015) and the team was selected for Inter University competition. During this time I had the privilege to play for my college and be selected for the West Zone Inter-University (2014-2015) team for which we secured the second place. My passion for Football fuelled even more when the team was selected for the All India Inter-University Championship in the year 2014-2015 in Varanasi, India. In my senior year in Bachelor of Commerce, I played again for the West Zone Inter-University Competition (2015-016) and secured the third position for the team. I had the honour to represent my team at All India Inter-University Championship in the year 2015-2016 held in Gujarat, India.

I strongly believed in “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish” and therefore my hunger for more knowledge led me to undertake a postgraduate degree in Commerce from Solapur University (2017-2018).

Another feather in my cap was a rare opportunity of completing a two year course from 2016 to 2018 in Fashion Designing from Inter National Institute of Fashion Designing (INIFD) where I had the opportunity to showcase my other hidden talent in fashion. Here I participated in various fashion shows and also learnt

about the fashion industry as well and the ways it is intertwined with Football as well; in terms of players clothing though.

I always wanted to pass my knowledge and experience gained to the younger age groups for which I had the chance to take my football passion to next level where I completed the AIFF Grassroots Leaders course held under the All India Football Federation (2016). I started coaching with my then Coach (Prof. Dr. Kiran Chougule), this was thoroughly worthwhile as I could use my knowledge from the coaching courses and then apply it to the real situations and training sessions on the field. It has been a great experience for me as I have had to adapt a new situation of communicating instructions and getting across all age groups. This requires a great amount of patience, something I pride on myself for having. I also feel the relationship with my team members makes me approachable, whilst maintaining a position of authority.

It was during my coaching course at AIFF I discovered myself and my purpose. It is now that am more charged than ever to explore what the future has in store for me.

Am at a stage in my life where my goals have slightly turned towards an interesting arena of Sports Management.

My strength has and will be Football and I wish to expand my knowledge of the sports to the limit where I may be considered absolutely crucial to the bigger game, even if it’s a small role. It is with this goal in mind I plan to pursue my Masters in my area of interest.

United Kingdom has always been and continues to be known as one of the world’s best sporting and research hub and the Mecca for budding players like me and hence I can visual myself studying in one of the country’s best University. Sports management in India, is at an initial stage and thus the exposure and learning prospects are much lower. I want to enhance myself and nurture my skills and bring out the very best in me. I believe that in UK, the scope for imagination and creativity is vast and never ending just like the ocean.

The best of education system that United Kingdom has to offer to players like us is only through your University. Since my aim is to do my masters from an institute that succeeds not only in giving me a degree but also adds value and meaning in terms of knowledge too that will help reach the epitome of my career and life as well. Thus I want to turn my dreams into reality by pursuing my master’s studies at your esteemed University.

As aptly said by Mother Teresa “We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop” and I believe that my contribution might be equivalent to that drop but it is these drops that make your university the vast sea of knowledge and helped it attain the prestige it boasts of today.

My never say die attitude and curiosity along with patience are the qualities that will help me to dig deep into the depths of any subject or problems and my on field skills will help me understand and solve them.

The enthusiasm that rushes inside me when I play this game is always on the other level; there is no feeling better than that. This is what has led me to desire and long to be a Sport

Management. Everyone has a purpose in this world, and I know that this is my calling.
