Street Smarts or Book Smart
Street smart a person is deficient in academics but intelligent in life. Street smart is gained knowledge outside the school; you do not need to attend school to have this intelligence. Schools and colleges do not recognize people who are street smart. They acknowledge only intelligent people who record-high performance in school. Institutions fail to acknowledge these people; they force them to read and record good academic results. Mostly a smart person is associated with being unintelligent. People do not know the potential of street smarts, and they a chance to show their ability. What they can do apart from schoolwork. Smart street knowledge is useful because it helps a person to interact with others and get along with different people. Being street smart, you will understand people’s interests and beliefs that will help you get along very well. With quick street intelligence without immediate book knowledge, you are an illiterate person.
Book smart is intelligence acquired through studying in class. Students need to book smart knowledge to be literate. For a book intelligent person, they excel in their academics, and they are interested in reading. The negative side of book smart is that schools and colleges do not encourage students to take part in their non-academic interests. Institutions want students to concentrate on exams performance and leave other activities behind like talents. They do not nurture the skills of the students. Institutions should develop units that are the interest of the students to get higher performance.
Both street smart and book smart are essential in a person’s life, but street life is more critical. Without the knowledge to deal with life situations, you cannot succeed in life. You will not be able to interact with people you meet. Street smart is required to solve problems that a person encounters in life.
