Susan Brownell Anthony
Susan Brownell Anthony was a famous suffragist and speaker of the national American suffrage asscociation.born in the year 1820 and best known as Susan B. Antony, who was an emancipationist who took the leading position in the women’s voting rights movement. She was raised in a simple religious family, and she began working at Canajoharie Academy as a teacher. Susan had desires In social reforms but stressed out with th less payment that women were being paid compared to that for men with the same jobs. She wished for equal amounts, and this made her uncomfortable.
Because of her great passion for ending slavery, she joined hands with Elizabeth Cady Stanto, where she finally became the leader of the national American woman suffrage association. She worked tirelessly, giving speeches all over to convince people to aid in women’s voting rights. Together with Elizabeth Cad, because they were now a pair with the same aim of bringing slavery to an end, they put up the women’s New York State Temperance Society after attending the anti-slavery conference.
Their enthusiasm drives them, they formed the Woman’s Rights Committee, where they fought for women’s rights. She acted as a 9representative of women, and she went ahead to present requests for them to be given a reason to chose their leaders and also posses belongings. She became the voice of all women in the society who did not have the power to present their problems and difficulties.she was mocked severely and blamed for trying to get in between marriage when she began campaigning for women-rights..
Being great lifelong friends with Stanton, she helped her out in taking care of her children at home while Stanton was writing. This is a sign of Anthon being a passionate woman in the success of her fellow women in the society. They also worked together in social reform duties working with the rights of women. They went further to launch the New York Women’s State Temperance Society after Anton was not allowed to speak during the temperance conference just because she was not a man.
In government matters, Anthony did not fear to fight for their fellow women to a point she took part in the presidential election even though women were not allowed to vote. In support of ending slavery, women’s national League was founded that conducted most significant petitions in history, collecting up to 400,00 signatures.
Antony made her farmstead to be a gathering place, especially on Sunday afternoons for those who were local activists, including well-known abolitionists. She attended church services that dealt with social reforms. She moved away from being a quake and even began changing her dressing styles bringing in the stylish ones.
“Do you not see that so long as society says a woman is incompetent to be a lawyer, minister, or a doctor but has ample ability to be a teacher. Every man of you who chooses this profession tacitly acknowledges that he has no more brains than a woman”. This is what Antony quoted during the debate if it is right for women to speak in public. She shows a lot of sense in defending her gender that was being looked down upon.
In conclusion, Susan Anthony was an outstanding woman and a good example who worked tirelessly to free people in slavery and let them access their rights. In our current society, it is quite challenging to get women like her who are passionate about fighting for others.
