Through the Swim United campaign, the USA swimming wanted to solve the problem of poor participation by increasing membership participation by more than 10%. This Campaign was also to create an awareness that swimming is not just a leisure activity but also a sport that would help to develop a swimmer even in aspects of teamwork.

Shifting attitudes and perception was the communication goal of the Campaign. This is because, since the general understanding of most people was that swimming was not a sport but a leisure activity, the Campaign was to change that perspective to register more people into the team and increase participation in the sporting activity.

There were social media strategies that were used in the Campaign to increase their dominance in social media. These were;

  1. The use of a hashtag. They used the hashtag #swimunited, which would be used to popularize the post and ease their search.
  2. The use of influencers. They used influencers, and this is a tactic where you use the people with a more substantial following to reach more people.
  3. Creation of relevant social media content. This created more awareness and increased their presence in social media.

Asking questions increases participation and thus creates the mood to start a conversation. In so doing, we get to understand the audience’s feedback and also we can sensitize people more on the objectives of Swim United.

  • Boost the successful post
