Unethical Issue in Amazon
Ethics is all about moral principles that guide people when pursuing their endeavors. Activities run in an organized manner if morality is upheld, on various occasions. For example, learning will be continuing if both students and teachers, including the non-teaching staff, practice ethics. Also, business firms achieve their goals in the presence of ethical practices (Kowal, Jolanta, and Narcyz, 127). All the stakeholders in an organization, the employers, employees, and investors must be moral for the planned activities. Unethical issues relegate goals in business activities. Therefore, consideration of the ethical practices in all endeavors is crucial. Firms must have ethical templates that guide all the stakeholders’ capacity.
The world knows about Amazon due to its excellent performance, hence retaining its market value. Firms that have similar goods and services always compete Amazon, but Amazon has better strategic plans for its activities. Despite Amazon’s improved performance, the organization has faced some unethical issues that made it unstable in the market. Amazon is believed to realize its increased profit by avoiding tax (Kowal, Jolanta, and Narcyz, 127). Taxation is one of the policies that all firms uphold in running their daily activities. Thus, avoiding the tax is a criminal offense, as it is documented in the laws of all states in the world.
Citizens would gain services they required due to the distribution of the services when tax is made available. For example, there would be equal education and healthcare chances for the citizens if fees were well paid and shared. Also, other issues like inequality per capita and poverty would be addressed in the presence of tax payment (Kowal, Jolanta, and Narcyz, 127). Therefore, when large organizations like Amazon do won’t pay taxes, it means that there would be lesser opportunities for such equality for the affected state. Thus, most corporations like avoiding payment of fees to increase their profit margin and market value.
Amazon can be named a serial tax avoider because it avoided taxes and made its way to the top of the market. Amazon took advantage of avoiding fees because it was an online venture. Most charges were imposed on environmental organizations (Baugh et al., 10). Currently, Amazon is tuned to pay sales tax accordingly. The region, where Amazon is located, could have significantly grown if Amazon was loyal in paying off its fees from the beginning. Also, Amazon avoids federal tax by investing back all the profits. Amazon does not record any profits made and hides the information thoroughly.
Also, Amazon always asks for the vast number of subsidies for both the local and national governments to have their projects run, swiftly. There are still expectations of job creation and the boost of the economy in the region when Amazon is given such incentives. Contrary to the norm, Amazon uses the cash given on their investments and elevates the profit annually (Baugh et al., 10). According to the understanding of ethical behavior, Amazon has gone astray from the expected. Firms must pay taxes for the sake of economic development in their respective areas. Also, rules and regulations on tax regarding organizations are documented and must be followed.
In conclusion, ethical behavior runs the world when it comes to performance. Organizations must stick to the ethics outlined to them in their code of conduct to improve the economy of the region affected. Amazon did the opposite in terms of tax payment and failed the economy. Ethical templates must be documented by firms.
